SUMMARY:
We're recruiting on behalf of a Cape Town-based client looking for a technically proficient and commercially savvy Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a leading consultancy in the building services sector. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced engineer with HVAC and data centre design expertise to work on high-impact projects—either remotely or from their Cape Town office.

POSITION INFO:

Job & Company Description:

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you’ll be responsible for leading full lifecycle HVAC design and implementation, from concept through to project closeout. You’ll manage junior and senior team members, ensure compliance with local and international standards, and provide technical direction across a broad spectrum of mechanical services, including Wet Services and Fire Protection. Strong client engagement, project leadership, and a high level of design proficiency are essential to succeed in this role.

This role is especially suited for an engineer currently operating in the data centre sector or with direct experience in data centre mechanical systems.

Job Experience & Skills Required:

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (B.Eng., B.Sc. Eng., or B.Tech. Eng.)
Minimum 7 years’ experience in Building Services Consulting
At least 2 years post-registration as a Pr. Eng. or Pr. Tech Eng.
Expertise in HVAC design, including heat load and ventilation calculations
Proven track record on data centre mechanical projects
Knowledge of SANS, ASHRAE, and British Standards
Proficient in Revit, AutoCAD, BIM360, and HVAC design software (e.g., HAP, IES)
Familiarity with Wet Services and Fire Protection systems
Excellent technical report writing, communication, and presentation skills
Code B driver’s license (own transport preferred)
