SUMMARY:
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior PHP Developer / Technical Lead to join their technology team based in Craighall, Johannesburg. This is an exciting opportunity for a technically strong and hands-on leader who enjoys building high-performing teams while remaining actively involved in software development.
The successful candidate will lead a team of 7 developers, driving technical excellence, mentoring team members, and contributing to the design, development, and improvement of software solutions within a LAMP technology environment. This role requires a collaborative leader who can balance people leadership with strong technical delivery.
The role follows a hybrid work model, with the successful candidate required to work from the Craighall office two days per week. The remaining days will be remote, subject to business requirements and team collaboration needs.
POSITION INFO:
Key Responsibilities Lead, mentor, and support a team of 7 developers, fostering a culture of collaboration, learning, and continuous improvement. Provide technical leadership and guidance to ensure software solutions are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with business objectives. Remain hands-on with software development, contributing to coding, code reviews, troubleshooting, and technical problem-solving. Drive best practices across development processes, including code quality, architecture, and technical standards. Collaborate with stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver effective technical solutions. Assist with planning, prioritisation, and execution of development initiatives. Identify opportunities to improve development processes, systems, and overall technical capability. Provide technical support and guidance when required, including standby support as needed. Promote a positive engineering culture through coaching, mentoring, and knowledge sharing. LAMP Stack Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP \/ Laravel Requirements 7-10 years of relevant software development experience. Proven experience as a Technical Lead, Senior Developer, or similar technical leadership role. Strong hands-on PHP development experience within a LAMP environment. Experience working with Laravel or similar PHP frameworks. Strong understanding of software development principles, architecture, and best practices. Demonstrated experience mentoring and developing software engineers. Ability to drive technical excellence while fostering a collaborative team culture. Strong problem-solving skills with a passion for delivering high-quality software. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment.
