Senior / Principal Hydrogeologist (PE)

SUMMARY:
A vacancy for a Senior or Principal Hydrogeologist has become available in the Port Elizabeth office. Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the vacancy.

POSITION INFO:

Experience and Skills:

The candidate must:

• Minimum BSc (Hons) Hydrogeology, BSc Degree to include Geology as a major subject and have a good working knowledge of South African Geology. A Chemistry major would be an added advantage.
• Principal Hydrogeologist should have 12 and above years relevant experience.
• Senior Hydrogeologist should have 6 years and above relevant experience.
• Be registered as a Professional Natural Scientist.
  • A valid driver’s licence and highly competent at driving field vehicles.
• Minimum of five years working experience in Hydrogeology and demonstrate proficiency at the following:
  • Specialist input into Basic Assessments, Environmental Impact Assessments, and Water Use Licences.
  • Planning geophysical surveys and interpretation of data (Magnetics, Electromagnetics, Resistivity, Gravity etc.).
  • Design and construction of production boreholes and monitoring wells in varied geological environments.
  • Planning and execution of hydraulic tests and interpretation of data.
  • Data analysis and interpretation of hydrogeochemical data.
  • Understanding / experience with conceptual hydrogeological models.
  • Understanding / experience with numerical flow models.
  • Writing concise technical reports would be essential.
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team and an environment which promotes a high safety culture.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Reporting to the SBU Partner or delegated line manager, the appointed person will be expected (but not restricted) to do the following:

• Project management functions, including client liaison, budgets, invoicing, and managing project personnel in accordance with SRK’s quality system.
• Compilation of technical reports, proposals, letters etc.
• Working both independently and on project teams.
• Work across group disciplines, SRK branches, and local / international projects.
• Expected to train and mentor junior staff and to generate business for self and others.
• Flexibility to work outside of normal working hours.
