Senior Project Planner

POSITION INFO:

Planner Primary Purpose:
To coordinate and review project schedules and planning programme processes to inform the preparation of tenders, budget estimates and pre-qualifications for large projects. Key Performance Areas Key Tasks
Review and assist with project schedule
•Review and analyse relevant documents to identify the client’s requirements e.g. tender/bid /feasibility study, tender specifications, schedule ofresponsibility, scope of work, bill of quantities, excavation plans, surface layouts, ventilations plans, etc.
•Conceptually match the Scope of Work, the drawings and the Bill ofQuantities
•Start with the first item through to the last item in the Bill of quantities andphysically measure drawings to establish whether in agreement with client’sdescription
•If there is a discrepancy – record item’s ID, discuss with line manager. Jointlydecide whether it is necessary to contact client for clarification
•Make changes if necessary, based on client’s clarification
•Do plant selection
•Load items in Microsoft project and start to schedule based on standard ratesobtained from Operations
•Check schedule again and also check it back to Bill of Quantities
•Distribute schedule to Site Managers/operations for comment and approval
•Do revisions of programme as necessary, e.g. based on client’s requests,change in methods, continuous improvement suggestions
•Include phases in project plan to indicate to Estimators when and how long sub-contractors form part of plane
•Distribute the programme through various iterations
•Once final programme is signed off, hand over to estimators
•Do site visits/inspections to assist with the design of specifications
•Attend the pre-Bid meetings and other meetings to clarify requirement
Review and assist with Labour Plan and Plant Plan
•Gather information on the equipment and plant material that will be neededthroughout all the phases of the contract
•Calculate the phases regarding plant material and equipment to be able todesign Plant Plan
•Obtain feedback from completed projects and keep record of in-house information related to company rates and norms
•Determine performance capabilities of equipment with detailed cycle timecalculations and adjust theoretical calculations to reflect historicalperformance achieved
•Gather information on the labour needed for a project from relevant stakeholders
•Calculate the labour needed per machine
•Design overall Labour Plan
Staff Supervision
•Delegate estimating and planning activities to relevant staff
•Coach staff where needed
•Coordinate time and attendance matters for staff
•Assist with the sourcing and recruitment of staff
•Ensure training, development and engagement of staff
•Deal with staff disciplinary matters
•Supervision of direct reportsQualifications & Experience
•Grade 12
•Shift Foreman Certificate of Competence and /or surveyor qualification
•Mine Captain’s Qualification or alternatively qualifications in Ventilation, Gas, Plan Reading and Mining (will be anadvantage)
•At least 5 years’ experience as Shift Foreman/Eng Foreman/Surveyor with planning experience for at least one largeproject
•Valid driver’s license
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
•Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Projects
•Advanced MS Project and Excel
•Hummingbird (E-Doc) document management software or equivalentWorking environment
