Senior R&D Engineer in Computer Vision and IoT
Permanent

Work Arrangement: Offices in the Winelands for those who prefer the office. The teams are mostly remote, however, they do want individuals willing to meet up with an interact with their teams from time to time.

The position:
We’re looking for a Senior R&D Engineer with experience in Computer Vision and IoT to join us as soon as possible.
You would need to:
- Research and keep up to date with the latest developments in Computer Vision and IoT technology
- Investigate the intricate details of the technology, what’s possible and also learn where it currently promises more than what can be commercially delivered
- Build experiments and test beds to test assumptions around and commercial viability of the technology
- Document what’s learned and apply the knowledge to help develop new and innovative products
Position Qualifications:
- B.Eng. or comparable degree in Electronic Engineering or Computer Science from a good university.
In the absence of a relevant qualification, overwhelming demonstrable experience in relevant projects with both hardware and software.
Position competencies:
The position requires knowledge of and experience in IoT software and hardware technology. These skills will be tested extensively in the recruitment process.

Essential:
Computer Vision (6 - 10 years)
-Construction and training of Computer Vision models
Embedded hardware & sensors (2-4 years)
-Evaluating sensor, communication and electronic technology
-Prototyping sensors and hardware
-Edge computing
IOT Platforms (1-2 years)
-Competency with IOT Frameworks and platforms (AWS, GCP)
Software (1-2 years)
-Time-Series Databases, MQTT, Messaging
General Software (2-3 years)
-Web (React/VueJS), Backend (Java, C/C++, NodeJS) and Mobile (iOS, Android, cross platform)
Embedded Software (2-3 years)
-Raspberry Pi, Nvidia Jetson, ESP32
Other Requirements:
- Good communication skills (verbal and written)
- Driven and self-motivated
- Results driven to the point where peers and supervisors are regularly pleasantly surprised by what the candidate achieves
