Our client is one of the most diverse consulting firms in Africa. To further their strategic business expansion plan, they are seeking new employees who are loyal, committed, competent and proud to work for them. They are looking for an experienced Senior Rail Design Engineer.
Position Overview:
The Rail Design Engineer will be part of the Highways, Transport Planning, ITS and Rail team and will be responsible for leading a design team in the delivery of rail projects and heavy haul (pit to port) railway systems. You will be expected to plan, design and manage projects, specifically assisting in growing the Africa rail business through engagement with Transnet, PRASA and mining clients. Work winning, mentoring and client engagement will be a fundamental part of this role. Supporting and engagement with the company’s global business will also be part of the function.
Requirements:
- BEng or BSc Civil Engineering
- Professional Registration (Pr Eng) with ECSA mandatory for a minimum of two years
- 5 - 8 years’ experience in design engineering
- Extensive experience with Bentley design suite software
- Extensive experience with the AutoDesk Suite
- Experience working on large, international projects
- Proven competence in Civil infrastructure Engineering Designs
- Experience with Resources and municipal clients
Key Responsibilities:
- Design delivery and managing and performing high quality technical advisory works ,
- Work with teams of engineers / contractors on multi-disciplinary projects,
- Manage project teams and resources towards delivery of project within expected timeframes and quality standards
- Project management and interfacing between engineering disciplines
- Risk management, including construction, operational, and financial risk as well as internal risk management;
- Assessing technical risks and proposing mitigation strategies to reduce risk exposure on projects
- Conduct site/quality supervision and basic project management,
- Co-ordination of engineering services,
- Client interface,
- Site investigations and assessments of existing rail infrastructure,
- Preliminary and Detailed Design,
- Rail Bids and Contract Preparation,
- Project and Contract Management of Works, including site work,
- Feasibility Studies and Preparation of Reports,
- Project Cost Controls and reports,
- Marketing, meeting with Clients, preparation of Proposals,
- Tenders, Quotations, Billing and internal cost controls and reporting.
- Mentor and supervise technical teams including reviewing, checking and approving work outputs.
- Drive and participate in work winning in defining and deploying the engagement strategy, selecting target markets and clients, and in scoping and pricing of services, with particular focus on the South African and regional markets.;
- Prepare and manage proposals for client’s projects such as Due Diligence, Technical Advisory services, Owner’s Engineering, and other service offerings, and provide inputs for the internal governance process;
- Manage existing and new customer relationships through efficient client and account management; and
- Attend internal and external meetings and represent the company in a suitable fashion.
