A role for a Senior Software Engineer exists within a worldwide leader in the global security solutions and systems space, providing Lead Systems Integration and value-added products and services to civil and military customers around the globe.

POSITION INFO:

JOB PURPOSE

 

 

To design, maintain and improve the product portfolio by applying relevant engineering design and development sciences to accomplish product features according to business and market needs. To perform exceptional engineering analysis, problem solving, innovation and design work within project teams against the back-drop of system acquisition principles and product life cycle requirements to ensure business success.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

o       BEng. (Electronic/Computer Engineering) or BSc Computer Science

 

IDEAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

 

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in Embedded Software development. o Minimum 5 years’ experience in PC based Software development.

 

·        Familiar with RTCA/DO-178B/C standards and experienced in MIL grade product development.

 

·        Well experienced in working with embedded electronics and go of understanding of hardware.

 

·        Well versed in C and C++ (Embedded and PC based). o C# and Python will be an advantage.

 

·        Design verification and test equipment development. o Experience with Matlab simulation.

 

·        Experience with the Xilinx Zynq processor.

 

·        Previous experience in Radar/Data Links/IFF advantageous.

 

·        Experience working embedded file systems such as Embedded Linux, VXWorks, and Free RTOS.

 

·        Experience with Software Requirement Specification gathering and definition. o Experience with Software Architecture.

 

·        Experience with VHDL and FPGA code development, advantageous. o Able to mentor junior engineers.

 

·        Able to lead and manage other developers.

·        Familiar with a broad spectrum of manufacturing techniques and applicability.

 

 

KEY TECHNICAL SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Possess solid fundamental knowledge of mathematics, physical sciences, and general electronic engineering disciplines and design principles linked to the individual’s academic

Qualifications and area of expertise;

 

  • Possess demonstrable Design and innovation skills are required and further enhanced through the use of engineering tools, simulation and rapid prototyping. Has the ability to

 

o   identify and develop specialised skills to ensure their own design responsibility/ area of expertise is of key importance;

 

  • Possesses excellent SW coding skills as well as the ability to define best architecture and platforms to be used, based on product requirements.

 

  • Possesses a good understanding of engineering processes and review gates by all R&D staff and is able to implement these consistently.

 

  • Possesses a drive to obtain and expand specific product knowledge and has the ability to extract all Product Life Cycle requirements for implementation in engineering solutions;

 

  • Able to ensure new work packages are properly scoped and authorized and follows defined change control principles and review gates to ensure product data packs of the highest

 

o   integrity are created and maintained;

 

  • Personal training and skills development is managed as a high priority and is focused on engineering and product technology needs. The individual must take the lead for personal

 

o   growth identification discussions with line management;

  • Perform informal research & expand knowledge;

 

  • Typical Engineering Tools and the Technical Skills Suite from which several areas are to be mastered (as agreed with Line Manager);

 

-        Design documentation in accordance to standards and customer requirements;

 

-        Analytical design calculations;

 

-        Design documentation standards;

 

-        Analytical design calculations;

 

-        SW Architecture;

 

-        High speed digital design;

 

-        Reliability Engineering;

 

-        Manufacturing and testability of products;

 

-        BITs and automated test benches (including design and development thereof)

 

-        Various IDEs for developing embedded and PC based SW.

 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

Task Planning and Contracting

  • Obtain specifications, written inputs and requirements for the product.
  • Define and finalise the scope of work (SOW), outputs and deliverables and the SW platform

 

o   and Architecture, including risk assessment. Obtain approval (sign-off) from the relevant personnel.

    • Primarily responsible for execution of the agreed SOW.

 

Design and Development Activities

 

  • Apply applicable design processes and techniques to define and select concepts that will meet the required functionality, interfaces and specifications as stated in the requirements.
  • Execute conceptual design tasks based on an operational mission understanding as obtained from the responsible system engineer.
  • Identify and address all Product Life Cycle requirements and assume full responsibility and accountability for design and Product Life Cycle performance
  • Design and develop industrialisation tools and test equipment concurrent with product design.
  • Document the design and generate/update data pack for configuration.
  • Perform/initiate engineering test and evaluation where applicable.
  • Define and generate test procedures taking into account design intent, quality, assembly time, reliability and ease of assembly.

 

General Engineering Responsibilities

  • Understand and adhere to the R&D divisions Design Philosophy and Processes.
  • Perform debugging and fault finding.
  • Monitor externally contacted work as engineering stakeholder (when applicable).
  • Expand analytical understanding of, and improve application skills for the in-house tools and
  • techniques required for the development of Companys products.
  • Define design requirements by interpretation of development specifications and system o requirements;
  • Break the user requirement down in the design requirements, to levels covering all the assemblies, sub-assemblies and parts to be designed.
  • Ensure peers and specialists reviews to ensure a design that is fit for purpose. o Investigate and apply new novel solutions and techniques to problem areas. o Train production personnel to assemble and test systems.

 

  • Provide production support to assist in solving assembly and test problems.
  • Proactively ensure knowledge transfer to peers by documenting work packages and coaching team members
  • Perform Lab Work, engineering testing and qualification testing. o Adhere to company policies and disciplinary code.
  • o Execute any reasonable ad hoc duty given by the line manager. o Contribute to the improvement of internal processes.
