SUMMARY:
A Structural Engineer with expertise in Finite Element Modelling (FEM) is sought for a specialist role focused on advanced structural analysis and performance-based design. The role involves leading FEM analysis of modular, hybrid, and unconventional building systems, developing detailed models, and collaborating across engineering and manufacturing teams. The position is part of a dynamic, tech-driven environment that integrates design, construction, and innovation across the full project lifecycle.

POSITION INFO:

Conduct advanced finite element modelling of structural systems using software such as ETABS, ABAQUS, SAP2000, Robot Structural Analysis, or equivalent
Utilize shell, 3D, and plane stress/strain elements effectively in FE analysis
Assess load paths, stress flow, deformation, and failure mechanisms in specialized construction systems and building technologies
Produce comprehensive analysis reports, including design calculations and recommendations for structural optimisation
Collaborate with engineering teams to incorporate FEM results into the overall project execution and design process
Ensure all modelling and design work adheres to applicable engineering codes (e.g., SANS, Eurocode) and internal standards

Skills & Experience:
Solid background in structural engineering, particularly with an emphasis on finite element modelling
Skilled in using advanced FEM software such as ABAQUS, ETABS, ANSYS, SAP2000, Robot, or similar platforms
Strong grasp of structural mechanics, material behaviour, and design principles based on relevant codes and standards

Qualification:
A Bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil or Structural Engineering is essential; working towards ECSA registration is advantageous.
