Senior Life Valuations Actuary

POSITION INFO:

Full accountability for monthly VNB reporting for the cluster -Individual Life business.

• Accountability for the correctness of valuation data
• oversight and co-ordination of Prophet runs
• calculating VNBs
• comprehensive VNB analysis and commentary (Analysis of Change relative to prior periods)
• presentation & detailed explanation of results to senior management
• writing monthly VNB reports
• ad-hoc VNB investigations and queries
• ownership of VNB Prophet model

Accountability for VNB forecasting

Analyse the drivers of profits for certain product lines and communicate insights to senior management

 Accountability for profit forecasting for selected product lines

 Perform embedded value calculations, Analysis of Embedded Value, consolidations and sensitivity calculations

 Ad hoc responsibilities include ownership of other regular valuation calculations. These include:

• tax projections;
• determining a fair value for the cluster’s licences;
• ad-hoc investigations to assist management with strategic decisions; and
• enable strategy setting for the Cluster by assisting with the preparation of annual budgets and other management reporting requirements as required

Management responsibility for a small team of valuation resources that assist with the work. Responsibilities include:

• workflow planning and tracking
• peer-review work done by more junior team members.  This may include profit and reserve calculations as well
• team management
• setting individual performance contracts
• training and development of team members
• guiding and mentoring team members to develop their potential
• performance management
