Social Scientists x 2 (6 Months Fixed Term Contract) Wits VIDA

Main purpose of the job:

• To coordinate a new Social Behavioural Sciences (SBS) study
• Implement a study management plan
• Facilitate the achievement of deliverables according to the protocol and project plan
• Manage staff and ensure project deliverables and timelines are met
• Analyze applicable quantitative and qualitative research data
• Participate in publishing scientific articles informed by the research outputs

Location:

• Wits VIDA Research Unit, Chris Hani Road, Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, and other locations in Gauteng as required by the study

Key performance areas:

Project Coordination

• Liaise with study stakeholders including the Department of Health, study sites, and all relevant officials or collaborators
• Arranging meetings, training, events or presentations as required, reports, minutes, and follow-up on all actions
• Document the process of study implementation through regular reports and ensure project delivery to timeline
• Manage study staff and liaison with sites staff

Social Science Research

• Identify study participants as set out in the study population described in the study protocol. ? Schedule data collection activities with study populations
• Conduct data collection activities including implementation of questionnaires and qualitative interviews with relevant study participants as per outlined study sampling criteria
• Coordinate data analysis processes with data management teams; oversee integrity and quality of data
• Conduct qualitative data quality control and transcription
• Perform thematic analysis in line with project requirements within two working days from transcription
• Conduct literature reviews as and when required
• Support Head Anthropologist with all study-related activities as required

Administration

• Keep and maintain records of all interviews in the relevant study files on a weekly basis
• Submit project status report weekly or as required
• Ensure all study site files are timeously and accurately maintained
• Liaise with all operations and other relevant internal teams to coordinate delivery of study requirements

Required minimum education and training:

• Degree in Sociology or Anthropology or related field

Required minimum work experience:

• 2 Years’ experience working in a social science research environment

Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities:

• GCP training & certification
• Computer literacy, including the use of Microsoft (MS) Word and MS Excel beneficial
• Attention to detail, enthusiasm, hard-working, ability to work independently, strong interpersonal and organizational skills, and ability to work in a team are essential; must be able to manage staff in multiple locations
• Fluency in at least one local language other than English
