Software Engineer Manager (PERN Stack)

SUMMARY:

Software Engineering Manager/Software Architect
Our client has built a technology platform which enables anyone to access the closest vetted private security & medical response unit to their location, anywhere, anytime, using a connected device. They are looking for an experienced individual to take on an Engineering Manager and Software Architect role within their technology department. This role is based in Johannesburg, South Africa with room for remote working. An individual in this role will take charge of the day to day management and running of the clients product pods as well as guiding a young team of engineers in building a global tech safety platform. The Software Engineering Manager will report directly to the CTO.

POSITION INFO:

Responsibilities and Duties:
● Technical scoping of new work and features.
● Sprint planning with developer pods and product owners.
● Day-to-day management, guidance and mentoring of the engineering team.
● System architecture reviews and guidance.
● Enforcing code standards and general good practices across the teams.
● Software contributions where possible - PoCs, Architecture changes, Developer tools.
● Performance measurement and tracking of developer output.
● Developer hiring and vetting.

Qualifications & Experience
● 5+ years of Software Engineering experience.
● 2+ years experience as an Engineering Manager/ Architect/ Development Team Lead.
● Key Skill Sets:
○ AWS and/or general cloud architecture experience.
○ Firmly grounded opinion on design patterns and software practices for guiding a Software Development Lifecycle.
○ Experience managing individuals and teams.
○ Javascript/Typescript, NodeJS, React ecosystems.
○ Automation/Code testing frameworks.

● Bonus Skill Sets:
○ Mobile development and architecture experience.
○ Auto-scaling cloud infrastructure and globally accessible services.
○ Information Security experience.
○ Agile/SCRUM training.

● South African resident or valid work permit.

Remuneration:
● Base Monthly Salary
● Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) vested over a 4 year period
