Our Client a Leading Organization is seeking a Special Advisor: Technology and Solutions Delivery to join their team in Pretoria. They offer excellent salary along with benefits, stability, growth and a great working environment.

We are looking for a dedicated, passionate and enthusiastic individual who will be responsible for driving pragmatic solutions and providing robust advice in an ever-changing digital environment. The individual will join a team of experienced technologists and use their commercial, legal and technology expertise to anticipate, minimise and resolve technological based threats across various technology platforms.

Job Purpose

To provide expertise, advice and support on composite issues relating to technology and technology service providers, including contractual, intellectual property, cyber security, procurement, regulatory compliance, financial and commercial issues, by managing and leveraging relationships with key technology partners, anticipating and minimising technological risks in an efficient, pragmatic, and timeous manner which limits operational disruption and maximises the value of Clients investment in technology and delivers against Client strategic objectives.

Education and Experience

Minimum Qualification & Experience Required

Relevant Master's degree (LLM) (NQF 9) with at least 10 years relevant professional practice or senior in-house counsel experience and specialised knowledge of IT Law and Intellectual Property law

Alternative requirements

OR Relevant LLB degree (NQF 7/8) with at least 15 years relevant professional practice or senior in-house counsel experience and specialised knowledge of IT Law and Intellectual Property law.

Minimum Functional Requirements

  • High level of understanding and demonstrable application of commercial and contract law, intellectual property law in the technology sphere.
  • Strong knowledge of technology related governance, public procurement, including risk and compliance management

Job Outputs:

Process

  • Provide expertise and guidance on technical, legal, regulatory, policy and compliance frameworks with internal and external partners to ensure operational continuity within the area of responsibility.
  • Communicate with key stakeholders in a meaningful strategic and operational context that articulates the division’s functional purpose philosophy.
  • Assist in managing and leveraging relationships with key technology partners.
  • Proactively resolving ICT threats and technology partner performance and service level issues in an efficient, pragmatic and timeous manner which minimises the risk of operational disruption of the Clients technology systems.
  • Assist in aligning the value chain to organisational objectives in partnership with relevant internal and external stakeholders.
  • Interpret internal & external organisational changes, assist in model change impact scenarios and assist in facilitating the introduction or adapting of systems in alignment with strategic intent.
  • Proactively identify interconnected problems, model and recommend alternative solutions, develop & establish contingency plans and pragmatic solutions aligned to the divisional direction.
  • Provide authoritative advice that guides the deliverables of technology partners to ensure the realisation of major organisational objectives in line with the Clients mandate.
  • Provide pragmatic and workable commercial and legal solutions in technology in the context of contractual and supply chain laws to ensure operational continuity and stability of Clients digital systems.
  • Provide proactive guidance on the protection of Clients data as well as intellectual property rights relating to computer programs and that developed software is adequately protected both in terms of contractual and licensing arrangements with technology partners and from third parties.
  • Report on all issues which arise relating to internal and external technology stakeholders.
  • Provide intellectual property advice on both licensing and bespoke software development.
  • Translate top-down policy, apply modification in relation to own practice area and communicate impact to relevant stakeholders.
  • Recommend changes to optimise processes, systems, practice areas and associated procedures and execute the implementation of change and innovation.
  • Optimise goal achievement through tactical strategy development and optimisation of practises, processes & systems across an internal value chain.
  • Integrate business information, compare, analyse & produce reports to identify trends, discrepancies & inconsistencies for decision making purposes.
  • Influence and communicate across business areas impacted by practice area to minimise resistance and ensure on-boarding of new thinking.
  • Draw on own technical or professional expertise, knowledge & experience to identify & recommend tactical solutions to defined problems.
  • Develop multiple practices in alignment with operational policy and procedural frameworks, supporting tactical development and excellence.
  • Contribute to the optimum utilisation of resources, advising on effective planning and development of area of specialisation resource plans.
  • Analyse and make recommendations about improvements to specialist systems, procedures, policies, and practices.

Governance

  • Assist in inputs into integrated governance, risk, and compliance frameworks.
  • Support the consolidation of the risk profile for the area of accountability, manage critical risks and ensure feedback.
  • Proactively address any risks and assist in remedying any Internal Audit and Auditor General queries.
  • Develop and/or align governance and compliance policies for own practice area to identify and manage risk exposure liability.

People

  • Be inclusive in the positive organisational climate & culture to energise and focus the function in order to optimise short term and longer-term productivity.
