Job Description

To provide a professional consultative service to all stakeholders and To provide a professional, sound labour practices and expert advice to all stakeholders – employees, management and union relations on behalf of company. Ensuring a compliant, yet peaceful and harmonious work environment.

The Job Requirements:

  • Responsible for managing all activities relating to industrial and employee relations
  • Build and sustain strong relationships with key stakeholders to ensure ER stability and employee relations through addressing identified issues in a speedy and amicable manner.
  • Responsible for managing and supporting Manufacturing Plant and Industry Level negotiations. Provide support, guidance and advice to negotiations team on issues of mutual interest; the formulation of negotiations strategy; drafting, interpreting and administering relevant agreements.
  • Acts as a liaison between the company and union representatives and actively engage in building sound union relations.
  • Proactively conduct, research and monitor internal and external employee relations environment, trends and developments to ascertain risk and impact to policies and processes.
  • Responsible for identifying, facilitating, mediating ER stability within our supplier network. Build and maintain strong relationships with the trade union and HR stakeholders. Proactively monitor on-site suppliers to identify ER risks.
  • Manage formal disciplinary, incapacity and grievance processes both internally and externally. Provide guidance and advice to all stakeholders involved in the process. Manage CCMA / LC / LAC cases as the company representative.

Outputs

  • Self development: Take personal responsibility for Learning & Development through a process of assessment, reflection & actioning, including on and/or off the job training, and sharing learnings with team.
  • Solely Responsible: Build and sustain relationships with key stakeholders to ensure ER stability and employee relations. Internally – management, shop stewards, staff committee and key shop floor employees. Externally (local) – within the supplier network, union officials, local business structures eg, BKCOB. Externally (national) – Union, OEMs, NEDLAC, academia, etc.
  • Co-Responsible: Responsible for managing and supporting Plant and Industry Level negotiations and facilitating relevant Working Groups. Provide support, guidance and advice to negotiations team on issues of mutual interest. Provide support in the formulation of negotiations strategy for both plant level and national negotiations. Facilitate collaborative engagements within smaller working teams to find proactive solutions.
  • Co-Responsible: Proactively conduct, research and monitor internal and external employee relations environment, trends and developments to ascertain risk and impact to company policies and processes. Monitor developments in case law that may affect ER in general and the company specifically. Monitor engagements within the TU movement and business that may impact ER trends. Conduct environmental; scanning of internal and external environment.
  • Co-Responsible: Responsible for identifying, facilitating, mediating ER stability within our supplier network. Build and maintain strong relationships with the trade union and HR stakeholders. Proactively monitor on on-site, JIT and JIS suppliers to identify ER risks. Provide collaborative guidance and advice on matters of mutual interest in supplier forums and platforms to ensure ER stability.
  • Co-Responsible: Manage formal disciplinary, incapacity and grievance processes both internally and externally.
  • Manage more complex and higher risk matters internally. Provide guidance and advice to all parties involved in the process. Conduct and manage CCMA / LC / LAC cases.
  • Co-Responsible: Strategic Learning Development Programmes for all company positions (TMDP- Coordinate, manage and facilitate the Team Manager Development Programme)
  • Minimum 3 -5 years’ experience in employee and labour relations
  • Proven track record at CCMA relating to arbitration awards
  • Experience in dealing with unions
