Specialist: IT Systems Engineer

Minimum Qualifications

• NQF level 6 in Information Systems/Computer Science or any related field
• Recognized Prior Learning

Preferred Qualification:

• NQF level 6 in Information Systems/Computer Science or any related field
• A DBA certificate is an added advantage

Relevant experience:

• Minimum of 3 to 4 years'''' working experience in a similar role.
• 3-5 years IT Experience, Project Management experience
• Good project management skills and experience (managing small scale projects).
• System Implementations Knowledge
• Install, configure & maintain database software on Windows
• SQL & PL/SQL skills
• Exposure to DR. MCDBA, MCSD
• Extensive, high level, expert TSQL, MCDBA and/or MCSD with 3 years’ experience • SQL Report writing

Experience with web services

•

Full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) including application development, implementation, and post implementation review

•

Contribute to implementation efforts (UAT, environment setup, end user support)

•

Training in relational database management, application server management, project management and software specific training is essential

•

Relevant working experience in a database administration environment

•

Working experience in designing, building, installing, configuring supporting database and application servers

•

Experience in server performance tuning and monitoring tools

•

Operational experience with security issues and access control

Strategy & Planning

• Collaborate with network staff to ensure smooth and reliable operation of software and systems for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
• Work with the stakeholders to define business requirements and systems goals, and to identify and resolve business systems issues.
• Contribute to and deliver on ICT and Organizational goals and activities aligned to strategy
• Demonstrate innovative thinking in area of expertise and translate this into business process/ solutions/ working practice improvements
• Deliver client or company specific projects in line with company standards and in agreement with line manager
• Document and assist with Business Continuity.

Acquisition & Deployment

• Design and deploy new applications and
• Enhancements to existing applications, software, and operating systems.
• Perform cost-benefit and return on investment analyses for proposed systems to aid management in making implementation decisions.
• Conduct research on software and systems products to justify recommendations and to support purchasing efforts.
• Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure system-related products and services.
• Gauge the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems; develop and implement strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems.
• Propose and create system design models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to provide direction to system programmer and development teams.

Operational Management

• Create and maintain documentation as it relates to system configuration, mapping, processes, and service records.
• Coordinate and perform in-depth tests, including enduser reviews, for modified and new systems. Monitor and test system performance; prepare and deliver system performance statistics and reports.
• Provide orientation and training to end users for all modified and new systems.
• Acting as a liaison between business stakeholders, such as management, customers or end users, and the software development or information technology team. Analyzing and communicating stakeholder needs by translating business requirements into software requirements.
