SUMMARY:

Job Purpose:

The purpose of this post is to direct, develop, promote and manage, student leadership activities and student governance structures in all Campuses of the University of Fort Hare, through co-curricular programmes, training and development in line with the Division's mandate to establish and conduct an integrated student leadership support and development programmes, aimed at making a fundamental and strategic contribution to producing a well-rounded graduate that is empowered, informed and responsible.

POSITION INFO:

Key Performance Areas

  • Provide strategic leadership in    the Student Governance & Development Unit
  • Develop, control and manage budgets, assets and plans of the Unit in all Campuses
  • Develop, promote and implement policies and procedures for student governance structures and monitor compliance by relevant stakeholders of the  Student Governance constitution.
  • Engage in strategic planning  with the relevant UFH departments and structures
  • Ensure that student programmes, training and development opportunities are implemented for student leaders and other relevant stakeholders
  • Promote a vibrant co-curricular student life at University
  • Promote research on student development trends nationally and internationally
  • To facilitate and manage the liaison and negotiations between the SRC, DHET and relevant national provincial student bodies
  • To manage staff development within the Unit.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications: 
  • M+3 (B-degree)
Minimum Experience:
  • At least 5 years work experience of which 3 years should be at a supervisory level in training  and leadership development environment
  • An in-depth understanding of development theories and practice in Student Affairs.
  • Ability to research and develop training material.
  • An in-depth understanding of the transformation discourse within higher education.
  • Ability to promote and enhance cultural diversity.
  • Excellent facilitation skills.
  • Excellent motivational skills.
  • Understanding of financial management principles.
  • Excellent project management skills.
