POSITION INFO:

Ensure full compliance with all tax regulations across the group, including corporate income tax, VAT, customs, excise duties, and withholding taxes
Lead the timely and accurate preparation and submission of statutory tax returns in accordance with SARS and international reporting requirements
Develop and implement proactive tax strategies that support operational efficiency and commercial goals.
Engage directly with SARS on audits, queries, and disputes to ensure effective resolution and maintain a transparent working relationship
Monitor evolving tax legislation and policy developments to assess and communicate business impact.
Identify opportunities for tax optimisation across operations, including supply chain, imports/exports, and intercompany transactions
Oversee the management of tax risks by establishing and maintaining robust internal control frameworks
Drive the development and execution of practical tax processes aligned with broader business systems and strategy
Lead the optimisation and automation of tax-related SAP systems and reporting tools to improve accuracy and efficiency
Collaborate closely with finance, legal, and compliance teams to ensure tax considerations are embedded in key business decisions
Provide tax support for group-wide strategic initiatives, investments, and commercial projects
Represent the organisation in industry tax forums and provide input on proposed tax legislation
Ensure effective use of external tax consultants, balancing service quality with cost-efficiency
Guide, mentor, and develop internal tax team members to build a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement
Coordinate internal audit readiness and represent the tax function in internal and external reviews

Skills & Experience:
Minimum 8–10 years of tax experience, including 3+ years in a senior or managerial role
Sector experience in fuel, energy, or chemicals is essential
Strong background in corporate, international, and transactional tax, including VAT, payroll, customs, and excise
Proven track record of engaging with SARS on audits, disputes, and compliance matters
Hands-on experience in manufacturing environments and large corporates

Technical Skills
Strong knowledge of South African tax legislation and international frameworks
Proficient in SAP, Excel, PowerPoint, and tax reporting tools
Solid understanding of GAAP and tax compliance standards

Leadership and Communication
Experienced in leading tax teams and managing cross-functional projects
Clear communicator, able to simplify complex tax matters for varied audiences
Strong interpersonal skills with a collaborative, results-driven mindset

Qualification:
CA(SA) qualification or Law degree
Master’s degree in taxation or related discipline is advantageous
