I am working with a FinTech start-up in Edinburgh who are looking to recruit a Technical Architect with strong JSON/XML skills.
The company:
They are a small and very niche start-up that operate in the FinTech space, based out of the Gyle. They started 4 years ago and now have around 20 staff, with a very settled and experienced team. They are in fact a not-for-profit business and the work they do is very specialised. The large majority of their clients are FTSE 100, so you will be working with some great companies, whilst also still being a small team.
The company has very little hierarchy and the staff (many who have been there throughout) enjoy the close-knit nature of the business. In fact, the only reason they are hiring is because one of the Architects is retiring! You will be joining a team of five other Architects, two Technical and three Business Architects. Regarding the office and what the plan is post-Covid, they have agreed they won''t be back in office until at least September and even after this, there will be a hybrid office work/work from home plan in place.
The role:
You will be providing architectural input and direction for all of the company''s design and maintenance work as well as architectural and technical support to their requirements gathering and analysis. You will lead the design and development activities in order to deliver technical artefacts in XML Schema, JSON Schema and OpenAPI Definitions. The current team has the development skills, so it is really the architecture side that they are looking for. The company largely operate in a Waterfall manner, with some Agile (daily stand-ups etc).
You will also work closely alongside the Business Analysts as well as Project Managers on resource estimation, and will need to deliver architectural activities on time and to budget. In the role, you will be expected to maintain a comprehensive, accurate and up-to-date repository of technical artefacts (models, diagrams, specifications, user guides, other documentation, etc.) and to support the company''s ongoing improvements to their architecture and products. To add to this, as the company grows, there are new avenues and products that they can create which you will have a say in.
Role requirements:
** Strong JSON schema and XML schema design
** An architectural background or ability to make the step up to this
** Designing and delivering APIs, with particular reference to Swagger / OpenAPI
** Data exchange using HTTPS and sFTP
** Background in Financial Services would be a benefit, but by no means a must
** Process Modelling and Entity Relationship/Data Modelling
** SOA development practices and governance
** The ability to lead the design and development activities to deliver technical artefacts, including XML Schema, JSON Schema, OpenAPI definitions
