SUMMARY:
Technical Senior Manager - Mechanical or Metallurgical Manufacturing
POSITION INFO:
This position is accountable for the development and execution of the company''''s technical strategy in the region in which the is responsible providing the technical resources necessary to achieve success in business plans. Additionally, the Technical Senior Manager must ensure the correct development of the technical specifications for the manufacture of products from the different sources of supply and provide the necessary resources for the development of new products, materials and applications. This position will also support the transfer of value-added solutions, through its connection with the Global Technical Department.
General Scope
1. The Senior Manager is to uphold the regional technical vision for the department and manage resources and executables in concert with approved, yearly budgets.
- The Senior Manager must monitor the scope of different technical activity leaders, such as: The Product Design Team (with its three product line specialties and Project Management
- The Materials development team (support in the development and understanding in the application of various materials), and
- The Product Management activities (using the Application and Field Support Engineers for this).
The Senior Manager is to work freely with the other global groups within the Technical Department and is expected to actively participate in cross-regional (US, Chile and China), functional committees supporting simulation, design development, drawing control protocols, VAES and ME FIT Projects, etc.
Principal Accountabilities
- Maintain the yearly Capital and Operational budgets apportioned to the Technical Department.
- Manage the Technical sub group in those processes governing the recruitment and hiring of key personnel.
- Be proactive in connecting with the market, through establishing relationships with all business partners to understand the solutions that the market requires. Deploy new products and technology to secure new business and broaden our portfolio.
- Increase our Speed-to-Market. Establish structure such that value-producing innovations get to market in a time-frame that supports proactive sales.
- Approve and monitor systems, procedures, plans, projects and assignments necessary to successfully execute the Product Design Group (PDG) accountabilities including: drafting; drawing control; wear tracking; scan data processing; Finite Element Analysis (FEA); Discrete Element Modeling (DEM); etc.
- Approve and monitor systems, procedures, plans, projects and assignments necessary to successfully execute the Materials Group accountabilities including: alloy characterization and optimization; technical support for melting and heat treatment processing; metallography (including sample preparation and microstructural analysis); comprehensive failure analysis to support both Contract Product and Services (CPS) and the commercial teams
- Effectively communicate and collaborate across functional and departmental boundaries such as CPS, Quality, Operations and Marketing. The Senior Manager is to ensure that the Materials Group manager and his/her team are interfacing with the Corporate R&D managers who are in turn accountable for new alloys and materials (e.g. composites that may include elastomers and ceramics). This particular accountability is crucial because the team will ultimately need to absorb what the R&D teams develop and release for further product development and production.
- Keep abreast of state-of-the-art information as it may apply to drafting and design; materials development; technical innovation; etc.
- Develop and maintain a familiarity with comminution process to better understand the environment that our solutions are exposed to. This type of awareness is critical to the Senior Manager appreciating the importance of his/her scope of accountability and how complementary the Technical and Technical-Commercial Teams are with each other.
- The Technical Senior Manager must monitor and provide the necessary support to guide the organization to achieve the objectives of the VAES Philosophy and the ME FIT Systems strategy, working very closely with the commercial teams and being a bridge between market requirements and internal teams of the company.
Position Qualifications and Experience Requirements:
Have a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Metallurgical Engineering
A Master’s degree is preferred.
Strong Customer Focus approach combined with a proactive business perspective.
Have at least ten years of experience working in a manufacturing environment.
Have experience in mining business and mineral processing knowledge.
Have experience providing solutions, products and services to customers, through engineering design and services.
Have oral and written proficiency in English
