POSITION INFO:
JOB OVERVIEW
Responsible for designing, conducting, and evaluating tests for armoured vehicles, ensuring they meet strict quality, safety, and durability standards. Responsible to ensure the reliability, safety, and performance of defence systems. Responsible for planning, organizing, executing, and documenting various testing procedures essential for product validation, ranging from ballistic and landmine resistance testing to mobility and durability assessments.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES
Test Planning & Execution
o Develop, schedule, and conduct tests in collaboration with internal teams and external clients. Testing scope includes but is not limited to landmine and ballistic certifications, vehicle mobility assessments and overall system performance evaluations.
o Coordinate test processes and ensure tests meet military and industry standards.
o Design and oversee test setups to ensure accurate simulation of real-world operating conditions, from extreme weather and terrain to combat scenarios.
o Identify and troubleshoot issues discovered during testing, providing recommendations for design or manufacturing improvements.

Equipment Maintenance & Calibration
o Oversee the calibration, maintenance, and functionality of test instrumentation and measurement chains, including conducting uncertainty calculations to verify accuracy.
o Organize, monitor, and manage test equipment inventory, ensuring compliance with internal protocols and external regulatory standards.

Data Analysis & Reporting
o Conduct thorough data analysis on test results, interpreting findings to assess vehicle performance and suggest improvements.
o Compile and present comprehensive test reports, ensuring clarity and accuracy for internal and external review.
o Gather and analyse test data, assessing vehicle performance in various categories, including structural integrity, electrical systems, safety features, and more.

Budget & Resource Management
o Manage the test department's budget, controlling expenses related to equipment, materials, and facility use.
o Coordinate with external suppliers for required testing equipment and facilities, ensuring alignment with project timelines and specifications.

Documentation & Process Management
o Draft and oversee test documentation, including test & evaluation master plans (temps), test requirements, test instructions, and detailed test reports.
o Implement and standardize procedures for test requests, approvals, and execution, optimizing departmental workflow.
o Ensure all testing procedures comply with relevant safety and regulatory standards, preparing detailed test reports and documentation for review and audits.
o Recommend and implement process improvements based on test findings, driving product quality and operational efficiency enhancements.
Internal Promotion & Collaboration
o Actively promote the capabilities and services of the test department within the organization, ensuring the department's
value is recognized and integrated into project planning and product development.
o Work closely with design, engineering, and production teams to integrate test feedback into product improvements and final quality assessments.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICAITONS
o Grade 12.
o Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field. Advanced degrees will be advantageous.
o Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a test engineering role, preferably within a defence or automotive manufacturing environment.
o Strong knowledge of test methodologies, data analysis, and use of testing equipment used.
o Proficiency in test data software, CAD, and other engineering software.
o Familiarity with military or defence industry standards and vehicle safety certifications.

SKILLS & OTHER REQUIREMENTS
o Strong background in test and evaluation of mechanical and armoured systems, with experience in Test Requirements and Test Instructions.
o Proficient in Systems Engineering processes and lifecycle management principles, especially within a manufacturing or defence industry setting.
o Familiarity with military or defence industry standards and vehicle safety certifications.
o Advanced knowledge of instrumentation, calibration, and measurement setup, including a deep understanding of measurement uncertainty calculations.
o Effective communication skills for collaboration with team members, external clients, and suppliers.
o Availability to work overtime as and when required.
o Ability to work in high-noise environments, lift testing equipment, and conduct tests in outdoor or rugged terrain.
o Must be able to work in a team.
o Continuously identify opportunities for process improvements and cost savings.
o May require background checks or security clearance due to the nature of the work with defence-related equipment
