Tier 2 Microsoft Systems Engineer (On-Site Lead) - George, Western Cape
POSITION INFO:
Our client is seeking a skilled and motivated Tier 2 Microsoft Systems Engineer to join their IT team as the on-site lead. The ideal candidate will manage and mentor two other technicians and drive the documentation of currently ad-hoc processes. This role spans hybrid Microsoft environments, including on-premises Windows Server/Active Directory and Microsoft
365/Azure.
Qualifications, Skills & Requirements
- Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer with 5–10 years’ experience in IT support or systems administration, focused on Microsoft technologies.
- Proficient in Windows 10/11 and Windows Server 2016–2022.
- Strong expertise in Active Directory, Group Policy, AAD Connect, Entra ID, and Azure AD.
- Skilled in Microsoft 365 administration including Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Teams.
- Competent in PowerShell scripting for automation and bulk administration tasks.
- Solid grasp of networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and experience liaising with WAN vendors on SD-WAN issues.
- Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and customer service skills.
Preferred/Advantageous:- Certifications: MS-102, AZ-104, ITIL v4 Foundation, CompTIA Network+
- Familiarity with Hyper-V, VMware, Intune, RMM platforms (e.g., Syncro, N-able), and documentation tools (Hudu, IT Glue)
- Understanding of modern security technologies such as Defender XDR, Zero-Trust, or SASE principles
- Experience with ITIL-based practices and ticketing systems
Additional Requirements:- Must have own transport
- Availability for occasional after-hours support or on-call duty
- Primarily office-based role with some remote flexibility depending on company policy
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver Tier 2 support for Microsoft systems (Windows OS, Microsoft 365, Active Directory)
- Administer Azure AD, Intune, SharePoint Online, Teams
- Oversee security configurations, patching, and updates
- Troubleshoot workstations, laptops, and mobile devices
- Handle user provisioning, access control, and onboarding/offboarding
- Lead infrastructure rollouts, migrations, and improvements
- Maintain IT documentation and compliance standards
- Manage and mentor on-site technicians
- Coordinate with vendors and clients
