JOB SUMMARY:
Our client, a national manufacturing company, currently seeks your tooling and maintenance expertise to supervise the safe and cost-effective execution of maintenance work in order to improve availability and reliability of plant and equipment.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Person:
  • Minimum Matric Certificate.
  • Must be a Trade Tested Millwright / Fitter / Electrician.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role pref. in the automotive industry.
  • Supervisory experience essential.
  • PLC and project management experience.
Key Performance Areas:

Tooling Engineering:
  • Supervise the work unit to achieve work unit objectives.
  • Supervise and manage Tooling Workshop.
  • Read and understand customer drawings to design required tools.
  • Manufacture tools in-house and make arrangements to outsource complex tools.
  • Manage Tool modifications as per Engineering changes.
  • Manage tool maintenance and technical support.
  • Inspect and sign off overseas manufactured tools.
  • Manage the Tooling Workshop for all legal and safety compliance.
Maintenance Management:
  • Supervise and manage Plant Maintenance department.
  • Determine resources (labour and materials) required and allocate overtime work.
  • Analyse and interpret Planned Maintenance reports (hours per department, hours per Artisan, etc.).
  • Analyse and interpret Breakdown reports (Manufacturing downtime, top-10, etc.).
  • Diagnose plant and equipment problems (fault finding) and identify opportunities to modify, upgrade, improve or replace equipment and spares.
  • Maintain and register all electrical hardware on site and back-ups of all installed software.
Maintenance Planning:
  • Compile and supervise the Preventive Maintenance & Tooling Programme according to the maintenance requirements for machines and equipment.
  • Maintain and update the Preventive Maintenance tasks, Critical Spares and Spares lists.
Maintenance Process:
  • Scheduled:
    • Receive maintenance schedules, interpret instructions and plan maintenance and repair work;
    • Approve Stores requisition for spares and consumables.
  • Breakdown:
    • Supervise the carrying out of breakdown repairs;
    • Escalate to next level if it cannot be resolved successfully;
    • Inform or advise Management of any breakdowns of a serious nature or where any potential equipment failure is imminent.
Engineering Projects:
  • Project Initiation:
    • Contribute to project initiation, scope definition and scope change control;
    • Participate in the estimation and prepare cost budget for a project or sub-project and monitor & control actual cost against budget.
  • Project Planning:
    • Schedule project activities to facilitate effective project execution;
    • Monitor, evaluate and communicate project schedules.
  • Project Management:
    • Manage implementation of Engineering projects;
    • Contribute to the management of project risk within own field of expertise;
    • Supervise Project team of a technical project to deliver project objectives;
    • Provide assistance in implementing and assuring project work meets quality requirements.
  • Project Administration:
    • Implement project administration processes;
    • Plan, organise and support project meetings and workshops;
    • Fulfil procurement activities and supervise procurement administration;
    • Provide procurement administration support to a project;
    • Conduct project documentation management to support project processes.
Continuous Improvement:
  • Keep up to date with latest developments/technologies in Maintenance.
  • Identify areas for improvement.
  • Develop and implement continuous improvement interventions.
Reporting:
  • Analyse Maintenance reports and identify opportunities for improvements.
