Transport Planner

SUMMARY:
Our client based in Boksburg is looking for a Transport Planner

POSITION INFO:

• Intermediate Proficient Computer Literacy Levels in MS Office and in-house systems essential (will be tested)
• Flexible and innovative
• Matric certificate and an additional, relevant tertiary education, 5 years working experience in distribution planning in transportation
• Quick and continuous learner
• Ability to collaborate across departmental boundaries within the organization
• Understanding of transportation routing and scheduling.

Responsibilities

•  Plan required shipments for delivery to customer and inter branch transfers in line with required delivery dates
• Optimally build truck loads to ensure optimal truck load utilization while maintaining required customer service levels
• Optimally route and schedule deliveries to minimize delivery costs and ensure customer service levels are maintained at required targeted levels
• Ensure that drivers are scheduled to carry out deliveries, in line with the Labour law and to minimize overtime costs
• Ensure that all variables and constraints are taken into account when compiling delivery schedules
• Optimize truck time utilization to ensure that vehicles are profitably utilized
• Optimize the fleet size and mix required to continuously minimize delivery costs while optimizing customer service
• Make use of own fleet and outsourced service providers in ensuring optimized customer service and costs
• Collaborate with Transport Controllers, Sales and Warehouse to ensure transparency, understanding, feasibility and optimality of distribution plans
• Continuous improvement of load building, distribution planning, distribution network and any other related areas to optimise costs and customer delivery
