Vice President of Engineering

POSITION INFO:

My client is seeking a dynamic Vice President of Engineering to play a pivotal leadership role in scaling their engineering organization and driving technical excellence. You’ll work closely with the CTO and cross-functional leaders to shape the technical vision and ensure seamless delivery of their transformative platform. Key responsibilities include owning the engineering hiring pipeline, designing performance KPIs and career progression frameworks, aligning engineering capabilities with product needs, fostering a feedback-driven culture, and serving as an escalation point for complex challenges. You’ll also design incentive frameworks, improve onboarding/offboarding workflows, and travel between Johannesburg and Stellenbosch for collaboration (on-site twice weekly). Skills & Experience:
Proven experience as a software developer with a strong technical foundation and exceptional people management skills.
Demonstrated success in leading and scaling engineering teams, ideally in fast-paced SaaS or startup environments.
Expertise in cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and modern software development practices (CI/CD, full SDLC).
Familiarity with frameworks like OKRs, KPIs, and DORA metrics to drive alignment and continuous improvement.
Ability to assess technical trade-offs, evaluate resource planning choices, and make strategic decisions.
English fluency required; Afrikaans beneficial.

Qualification:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
