Websphere Application Server Specialist

SUMMARY:
Our client within the banking industry is currently looking for a WebSphere Application Server Specialist.

POSITION INFO:

Role Purpose

Site reliability engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and supporting JBOSS, Websphere, Openshift and supporting services infrastructure on Linux environment.

Job Summary

• Responsible for the design, construction, implementation and operation of the Points of Presence IT infrastructure solutions, specifically those running in Websphere Application Server, JBOSS and Openshift.
• Provide technical and project team leadership to business systems and application developers through a combination of specialised knowledge and expertise in company business unit operations.
• Support non-production and production environments on Suse/Redhat Linux or any other platform as designed by the architectural direction of the business unit operations.
• Work closely with application developers, data modellers, DBAs, architects and other technical resources to support applications with requirements for high availability, high performance, and high reliability.
• The JBOSS/WAS/OpenShift Specialist will report to the Points of Presence IT Operations – Branch Central IT Manager.

Scope of Activities and Responsibilities

• Responsible for the physical implementation of the Application Server Central structures, automation utilities for supported applications, allocation of system resources such as CPU, storage, memory and planning for future requirements.
• Responsible for updating and keeping the JBOSS, Websphere Application Server,OpenShift and automation utilities environments up to date and patched as per the required standards and architecture roadmap.
• Responsible for the configuration of Websphere, JBOSS and OpenShift to support business needs.
• Ensure overall health and maintenance is in place for the Websphere, JBOSS, OpenShift and automated utilities environments.
• Implementing security, controlling and monitoring of user access to the Application Server environments and logs in line with company standards.
• Monitoring and tuning the Websphere, JBOSS, OpenShift and applications (includes writing scripts to facilitate the monitoring of the Application Servers) and/or using monitoring tools like App Dynamics or Dynatrace.
• Plan and perform Application Servers backup, recovery and DRP processes.
• Analyse load/stress testing results with other IT specialist areas to configure and tune environment for optimal performance.
• Prepare design documentation (including logical designs, physical designs).
• Design Websphere, JBOSS and OpenShift environments for any new applications in line with architecture guidelines.
• Assist with troubleshooting any problems in all Points of Presence Websphere and JBOSS environments.
• Liaise with developers, systems analysts, project managers, business owner regarding all project and change initiatives.
• Provide required reporting on all applications and Websphere, JBOSS and OpenShift systems within the Points of Presence environment on a monthly basis
• Ensure environment works in a disaster recovery situation.
• Ability to implement systems within agreed timeframes.
• Foster good working relationships, collaboration and regular dialogue with team, other Group members and vendors for ongoing development, best-practice and future support and co-operation.
• Ensure architecture and design integrity is maintained throughout the application server environments as application code changes are implemented.

Qualifications and Experience

• Degree/Diploma/Certificate in Information Systems, Computer Science or other quantitative discipline from an accredited school. (min NQF5).
• Minimum of 5 years current experience in Websphere ND or JBOSS performing all activities mentioned above.
• Minimum of 2 years current experience in OpenShift performing all activities mentioned above.
• A minimum of 5 years solid experience in IT operations, software and hardware support across various platforms.
• Proven ability to manage the effects of change with the possibility of large scale outages.
• Solid experience working in a multi-disciplinary team, fostering collaboration and teamwork.
• Solid understanding of ansible.
• Minimum 3 years experience in banking or financial services.
• Solid experience in interacting with internal and external customers with demonstrated customer service orientation.
• Certification for Websphere Application Server and JBOSS Administration would be an advantage.
• Certification in RHCA (RedHat Certifcate Administrator) is required.
• Certification in RedHat Ansible would be an advantage.
• Needs a good understanding of J2EE Architecture.
• Experience in J2EE/Java programming an added advantage.
• Linux and WAS/JBOSS scripting experience is required for monitoring and automation
