WELDING ENGINEER

A vacancy exists for: Welding Engineer reporting to the Engineering Manager. The main purpose of the role: Draught welding and mechanical designs of boiler and boiler related equipment, conduct technical investigations or reviews, provide engineering support to boiler and boiler related equipment maintenance activities. Based in JHB with regular travelling to site required.
The Purpose of the position is to:
Plan and manage engineering projects (engineering function only) and provide feedback on progress
Manage progress according to task progress, time, cost and quality
Issue documents to client as per project plan
Perform designs in accordance with project requirements and relevant codes and standards on boiler and boiler related equipment
Develop method statements for manufacturing, construction and maintenance activities
Perform plant failure investigation studies
Perform plant maintenance review studies
Review engineering work of others
Update documents according to designs or studies
Mentor junior engineers
Assist with training of engineers, piping technicians and other personnel
Hold technical discussions with customers
Effective and regular communication with customers
Arrange and chair engineering meetings with clients
Regularly engage and keep relevant departments abreast of technical updates, project progress and with any other pertinent information.
Oversee the compilation of the technical part of tender documents for major projects
Assist with the estimation of engineering scope of tender
Technical support as and when required
Site visits as and when required
Develop and qualify welding procedures according to the relevant standards
Maintain welding procedures according to company requirements
Stay abreast of developments in the associated technologies
Monitor technical success of engineering designs and recommendations
Update engineering standards in accordance with feedback and development work
Develop welding procedures, component and design standards to improve service and product range
Maintain a high technical profile of the company by writing articles and attending conferences.
Minimum Qualifications
Honours Degree in Engineering (BSc, BEng or BEng Tech) specialising in Welding
IIW International Welding Engineer /Technologist (IWE/IWT) Certificate
Professional Engineering registration with ECSA (Preferred)
Experience
10 years’ relevant experience in similar industry
Boiler and boiler related equipment processes
Boiler and boiler related equipment design principles, standards and codes
Basic knowledge of structural designs
Occupational Health and Safety Act
Pressure Equipment Regulations and SANS 347
Welding processes, metallurgy and standards
Non-Destructive Testing methods and standards
Fabrication Engineering
Technical/Professional Knowledge
General computer skills
Specific software operating skills such as for Autodesk Inventor, PV Elite and CAESAR II
