SUMMARY:

Looking for a Workshop Assistant to support artisans in tool handling, material preparation, workshop upkeep, and assembly/repairs. Temporary position ideal for aspiring technicians in the engineering/technical sector.

POSITION INFO:

Job Title: Workshop Assistant
Type: Temporary

Duties and Responsibilities:

Tool & Equipment Handling
- Fetching and returning tools for artisans welders.
- Cleaning, checking, and maintaining basic tools.
Material Preparation
- Cutting, grinding, drilling, or sanding simple parts under supervision.
- Preparing steel, pipes, or components before they are welded or assembled.
- Cleaning weld spatter and fettling welds.
Workshop Housekeeping
- Keeping the workshop clean, safe, and organized.
- Sweeping, removing scrap, and ensuring walkways are clear.
Assisting with Assembly/Repairs
- Holding, lifting, and positioning parts during assembly.
- Passing bolts, nuts, and components to fitters or millwrights.
- Lubricating and cleaning machine components.
Loading & Moving
- Helping with loading/unloading of parts and equipment.
- Using trolleys, pallet jacks, or hoists under supervision.
Learning & Development
- Observing artisans and gradually learning basic technical skills.
- Often a stepping stone into an apprenticeship (millwright, fitter, welder).
