AI Engineer - Johannesburg or Cape Town (Hybrid)

POSITION INFO:
Contract: 6 to 12 months (negotiable based on project scope) Working Model Hybrid: 3 days onsite | 2 days remote per week Purpose Our client is seeking an experienced AI Engineer to design, develop, deploy, and optimise AI and Generative AI solutions. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering intelligent automation, advanced analytics, and enhanced customer experiences across the enterprise. Key Responsibilities Design and develop AI and Generative AI applications and services. Build and integrate Large Language Model (LLM) solutions into enterprise applications. Develop prompts, AI workflows, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) solutions. Integrate AI services and APIs with enterprise platforms. Optimise AI model performance, scalability, and reliability. Collaborate with Product Owners, Data Engineers, and Solution Architects to deliver AI capabilities. Implement secure, responsible, and well-governed AI solutions. Contribute to the continuous improvement of AI engineering practices. Requirements 5+ years' experience in Software Engineering with AI development. Strong proficiency in Python. Hands-on experience with Azure OpenAI and OpenAI APIs. Experience with Azure AI Foundry. Strong understanding of Large Language Models (LLMs). Experience with LangChain or similar AI orchestration frameworks. Expertise in Prompt Engineering. Experience designing and implementing Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) solutions. Knowledge of Vector Databases. Experience integrating REST APIs and enterprise systems. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
