Accountant

SUMMARY:
Are you a detail-driven Accountant who thrives in a fast-paced retail environment? Do you enjoy hands-on involvement with stock, reconciliations, and financial reporting? We are looking for a dynamic and meticulous Accountant to join a well-established hardware retail business, where accuracy, organisation, and strong systems understanding are key to success.

POSITION INFO:
Accounting & Financial Operations
Full accounting function within a high-volume hardware retail environment
Daily reconciliation of sales, including cash, card, and online transactions
Preparation of monthly management accounts (Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow)
General ledger management and journal processing
Maintenance of fixed asset register

Inventory & Stock Management
Accurate tracking and reconciliation of inventory between POS and accounting systems
Oversight of monthly and ad hoc stock counts
Analysis of Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) and inventory variances, including shrinkage and wastage

Accounts Payable (Creditors)
Capturing and processing supplier invoices
Reconciling supplier statements
Ensuring accurate and timeous payments

Accounts Receivable (Debtors)
Managing customer accounts, including trade and contractor credit accounts
Monitoring collections and resolving account queries

Tax & Compliance
Preparation and submission of VAT201 returns via SARS eFiling
Assistance with PAYE, UIF, and SDL where required

Systems & Reporting
Working closely with POS and ERP systems (e.g. Sage, Pastel, SAP)
Providing financial insights to support operational and management decision-making

Skills & Experience:
Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
Experience with accounting software (Sage / Pastel essential)
Retail, distribution, or manufacturing accounting experience highly advantageous
Strong planning, organisation, and time management skills
Ability to work under pressure in a deadline-driven environment
Confident communicator and effective team player

Qualifications:
B. Com Accounting or equivalent Finance/Accounting qualification
Minimum 3 - 5 years’ relevant accounting experience (retail environment preferred)
