POSITION INFO:
The Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, performing routine accounting tasks, and supporting the financial operations of the organisation. This role ensures compliance with accounting standards, assists with financial reporting, and contributes to effective financial management and decision?making.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent.
- 2–5 years’ experience in an accounting role.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and standards.
- Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Sage, Pastel, SAP, QuickBooks).
- Advanced MS Excel skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent organisational and time?management skills
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
Main responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare and maintain accurate general ledger entries.
- Process journals, accruals, and prepayments.
- Assist with preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
- Assist in budget preparation and variance analysis
- Support the Financial Manager with forecasting and financial planning
- Analyse financial data to identify trends and anomalies
- Assist with month?end and year?end closing activities.
General Ledger & Reconciliations
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts
- Ensure accurate journal entries and adjustments
- Perform monthly bank and cashbook reconciliations
Accounts Payable & Receivable
- Assist with processing of supplier invoices, credit notes and payments
- Assist with supplier statement reconciliation
- Monitor customer invoices/accounts and allocate payments received.
- Reconcile creditor and debtor accounts
- Assists with follow up on outstanding debts and support collection efforts.
Bank and cash management
- Perform daily bank reconciliations.
- Monitor cash flow and assist with cash?flow forecasting.
- Ensure accurate recording of all banking transactions.
Compliance & Auditing
- Assist to ensure compliance with company policies, tax regulations, and accounting standards
- Assist with internal and external audits by preparing required documentation
- Maintain accurate records for audit and compliance purposes
Inventory & Asset Management
- Support inventory count processes and reconciliation
- Maintain fixed asset register and calculate depreciation
Administrative Duties
- Maintain organized financial records and filing systems
- Support year-end closing and archiving processes
- Perform ad hoc duties as assigned by the Financial Manager
- Prepare costings as required and comparison on prices for competitors
Company Compliance
- Adhere to company HR policies and procedures
- Comply with Quality Management System
- Follow Occupational Health and Safety regulations
- Report any irregularities or concerns to management
