Actuary – Reserving & Short-Term Insurance

POSITION INFO:
A well-established and trusted short-term insurer in South Africa is looking for an Actuary to join their team, focusing on Reserving and broader short-term insurance analytics. This role offers exposure to a diverse range of products. The company offers a flexible hybrid working model, providing the best of both collaboration and autonomy.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform regular reserving calculations across various lines of business.
• Analyse complex datasets to extract meaningful insights that support reserving and profitability decisions.
• Develop and maintain interactive dashboards and reports using Power BI.
• Collaborate with underwriting, finance, and product teams to support business strategy and performance monitoring.
• Contribute to ongoing model refinement and process improvement initiatives.

• A Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science or a related quantitative field.
• 6 actuarial exams completed, with a consistent track record of progress toward qualification (e.g., ASSA, IFoA).
• Strong experience in short-term (non-life) insurance, ideally with exposure to reserving.
• Proficiency in data tools such as Power BI and Excel.
• Solid analytical and problem-solving skills, with a strong attention to detail.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally with both technical and business teams.
