POSITION INFO:
This is a senior actuarial leadership role for a qualified actuary who doesn’t just maintain models - but questions them, improves them, and scales them. The position sits at the intersection of actuarial rigour, automation, and operational efficiency, with a mandate to streamline complex actuarial processes across multiple reporting and regulatory frameworks.
The role is designed for someone who sees inefficiency as a problem to be solved, not tolerated. Working closely with executive actuarial leadership, this individual will drive process improvement, system enhancement, and automation while leading and developing a small team of actuarial professionals.

Duties:

• Lead and implement initiatives to improve actuarial processes and drive operational efficiency.
• Collaborate across actuarial functions including Valuations, SAM, IFRS 17, Embedded Value, and Budgeting.

• Valuations, Embedded Value, Value of New Business, and Analysis of Change across multiple entities.
• Experience investigations and actuarial assumption setting.
• Data management, ETL processes, and reporting workflows.
• Oversee non-insurance actuarial reporting within the department.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and planning processes.
• Identify, assess, and implement actuarial software, system, and technology enhancements.
• Contribute to once-off strategic or analytical projects as required.
• Lead, mentor, and develop junior actuarial team members.

• Matric (Grade 12)
• Degree in Actuarial Science
• Qualified Actuary (FASSA or equivalent)

• Minimum of 6 years’ actuarial experience within the insurance industry.
• At least 2 years’ post-qualification experience.
• Proven experience leading actuarial or analytical teams.
• Demonstrated exposure to actuarial reporting across multiple frameworks (e.g. SAM, IFRS 17, Embedded Value).

• Advanced Excel proficiency and strong actuarial modelling capability.
• Experience with actuarial software such as Prophet or Basys.
• Working knowledge of data and analytics tools such as SQL or QlikView (advantageous).
• Exposure to automation, analytics, or cloud-based tools such as Python, Power BI, or Azure (advantageous).
• Strong ability to translate complex actuarial outputs into practical business insights.
• High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
• Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
