Analytical Engineer

We are looking for an Analytical Engineer to join our financial services client based in Johannesburg on a 12-month contract.

This role bridges data engineering and analytics by combining strong data modelling expertise, data transformation capabilities, and analytical problem-solving skills to support enterprise data products and business outcomes.

POSITION INFO:
What you will be doing: Design and implement scalable data models, including Data Vault and dimensional modelling techniques, to support enterprise analytics and reporting requirements Develop and maintain ETL\/ELT pipelines to ingest, cleanse, transform, and integrate data from multiple source systems Deliver trusted, analytics-ready datasets that support business intelligence, reporting, advanced analytics, and decision-making Ensure data models and datasets align with enterprise architecture, governance standards, and best practices Collaborate with Data Scientists, Analysts, Product Owners, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver effective data solutions Enable analytics and reporting use cases through high-quality, curated data products Ensure data integrity, consistency, lineage, and quality across enterprise data assets Apply governance frameworks, controls, and standards to support compliance and auditability Support the delivery of enterprise data products within Agile and cross-functional squads Contribute to the continuous improvement of data engineering practices, data quality, and platform capabilities What we are looking for: Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field 5+ years' experience in Data Engineering, Analytics Engineering, or a related data-focused role Strong experience with Data Vault and dimensional data modelling methodologies Advanced SQL skills for querying, transformation, and optimisation Proficiency in Python for data engineering and analytical workloads Experience with modern cloud-based data platforms such as Azure, Databricks, or Microsoft Fabric Strong understanding of data warehousing principles and architecture Experience developing and maintaining ETL\/ELT pipelines Knowledge of data governance, data quality, metadata management, and data lineage concepts Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills Experience working within Agile delivery environments Advantageous: Experience within banking or financial services environments Exposure to real-time or streaming data processing technologies Understanding of DataOps, DevOps, and CI\/CD practices Experience supporting enterprise-scale data products Certification in Data Modelling, Azure, Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, or related technologies Please note if you do not hear from us within 3 weeks, please consider your application unsuccessful.
