The Opportunity We are recruiting an experienced Analytical Engineer for one of South Africa's leading banking institutions. This is not a traditional Data Engineering role. We are specifically looking for someone with deep expertise in Data Modelling , SQL , Data Vault 2.0 , and the ability to transform complex business requirements into trusted, analytics-ready data products. You will work closely with Business, Data Engineering, Architecture and Analytics teams to design governed data models, validate enterprise data and deliver high-quality datasets that support reporting, advanced analytics and strategic decision making. If your experience is primarily Power BI development, software development, infrastructure engineering or database administration, this role will not be suitable. What You'll Be Responsible For Designing enterprise analytical data models using Data Vault 2.0 and dimensional modelling techniques Translating business requirements into scalable analytical data structures Performing detailed data profiling, data discovery and source system analysis Building trusted, analytics-ready datasets for enterprise reporting and decision-making Developing complex SQL transformations across large enterprise data environments Working with Azure Databricks and modern cloud data platforms Validating data quality, completeness and business rules Applying enterprise data governance, lineage and metadata standards Collaborating with Data Engineers, Architects, Business Analysts and business stakeholders Supporting Agile delivery teams and enterprise data initiatives Essential Experience (Non-Negotiable) Applicants must demonstrate commercial experience in: Data Modelling Data Vault 2.0 Dimensional Modelling (Kimball) Advanced SQL Data Profiling Data Analysis ETL \/ ELT design Azure Databricks Enterprise Data Warehousing Data Quality & Data Validation Business Requirements Analysis Stakeholder Engagement Preferred Technical Skills Experience with one or more of the following: Azure Data Factory Microsoft Fabric Azure Synapse Analytics Python Delta Lake Spark Git Data Lineage Metadata Management Data Governance Frameworks Ideal Background We are particularly interested in candidates who have worked within: Banking Financial Services Insurance Enterprise Data Platforms Large-scale cloud data transformation programmes You'll Be Successful If You Think analytically and enjoy solving complex data problems Can confidently engage both business and technical stakeholders Have exceptional attention to detail Build trusted, governed analytical datasets Understand enterprise data architecture and modelling principles Can bridge the gap between business requirements and technical implementation Please Do Not Apply If You are primarily a Power BI Developer Your experience is mainly Software Development You are an Infrastructure or Cloud Engineer You have little or no Data Modelling experience You have never worked with Data Vault or Dimensional Modelling Your SQL skills are basic or intermediate Only applicants meeting the essential technical requirements will be considered.
