Purpose of the Job

To join a team of application specialists (support engineers) in support of new end-to-end business insights and intelligence system. The individuals selected while having their own specialist focus from an application perspective will be expected to conclude general support activities across the application stack and be on call to resolve and troubleshoot any issues that may occur.

There are two main technology application stacks that require support, namely: Pyspark and Hive running on a MapR cluster, BI tool on WebSphere/WebLogic/JBOSS, Proprietary Virtualisation Platform, and Proprietary ETL (Extract Transform Load) Platform. You will be expected to have detailed knowledge of one of the application stacks but with at least an interest in understanding the other in order to provide general support and standby cover for other team members.

Job Objectives

Plan and manage all activities with the data management application technology portfolio within his/her responsibility.
Ensure timely and effective communication with the project team, the project stakeholder, and business support users.
Effectively manage day-to-day IT operations relevant to the application under their responsibility, including being on call to respond to incidents.
Where relevant manage vendor relationship with third-party application suppliers and service providers.

REQUIREMENTS

IT Related Degree/ Diploma or 10 years equivalent experience
5 years experience within an IT support management position
3 years experience with large data volumes and related data loads
5 years Broadly skilled in information and communication technology with a specific focus on big data, business intelligence, or data warehousing
5 years of knowledge of all steps of systems development from specification to implementation
Knowledge of change management

Skills

(Essential for one technology are desirable for the other) - 2 years

Experience with configuration, administration, and troubleshooting issues with Hive or Pyspark jobs running on MapR or other Hadoop distribution.
Experience with understanding and resolving performance issues in providing QA support for jobs running on MapR or other Hadoop distributions.
Experience with integration of ETL workflows into an enterprise-wide scheduling environment.
Experience with Installation, configuration, administration, and troubleshooting issues with WebSphere/ WebLogic/ JBoss Appl and Tomcat Application Server.
Experience with any industry-leading Application or BI tool on WebSphere/WebLogic/JBOS.
Experience with understanding and debugging of WEB/JAVA applications, different logging, dealing with performance issues, development, and QA support.
Ability to configure Clusters, JMS, Virtual Hosts, JDBC, auto-deployment, session replication, URL redirections, Re-write rules, http-plugins, etc. Thread dump and log analysis.
Experience in ETL tools for data transformation and ingestion from 3rd Party sources.
Experience in Monitoring and Optimisation of large Data Loads.
Experience with data structures and relationships for relational and non-relation databases
