National Diploma in Civil Engineering with a minimum of 5 years’ relevant working experience with a focus on road infrastructure, bulk material handling, pavement layers and drainage.
POSITION INFO:
Our client currently as an opportunity for an Assistant Resident Engineer to be responsible for the day-to-day surveillance and inspection of construction activities. Monitor the works to ensure all construction is in accordance with the design intent and specifications and are completed to schedule and with minimal disruption to operations.
The role is for a specialist who will plan and undertake and/or verify inspection and testing of processes and/or infrastructure so as to ensure conformance with agreed specifications and standards requirements and will strive to assure that the works are constructed in accordance with the design requirements. Will work with the established project standards for review and acceptance of the Contractors’ Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) plans.

Key responsibilities:
Fully acquainted with the scope of the contract, the schedule, the technical specifications, and commercial aspects of the contract.
Attend the kick-off and site meetings. Chair and record each meeting in the absence of the employer’s Agent or Resident Engineer.
Review and comment on contractor’s planning as required under the contract and monitor and control compliance.
Attend and participate in construction risk assessment workshops.
Maintain records of site activities in the form of a site daily diary.
Provide all reasonable assistance to the contractors in the execution of their works.
Minimize interface problems by coordinating the operations of the different works.
Liaise with the CMS team (including the Design Office) to ensure the timely availability of drawings, technical data and free-issue materials and equipment.
Issue written site instructions (as delegated by the Resident Engineer) to the contractor as required.
Monitor procurement progress on materials supplied by the contractor.
Monitor resources employed by the contractor, including number and caliber of staff, field personnel and equipment.
Compile and track the status of punch lists as each contract or work section nears completion.
Coordinate any site surveying requirements.
Coordinate the resolution of site technical queries.
Prepare field sketches as required for records of changes or for clarification.
Collect and collate contractor’s as-built drawings and manuals.
Assist with quantity measurements for payment purposes.
Assist in the site document control function and distribute all engineering documents to appropriate contractor’s personnel.
Monitor the contractor’s and supplier’s quality of work, procedures, installation of material and equipment for quality control compliance.
Inspect and document acceptance of construction activities and installations and assist with the preparation of practical completion documentation and handover packages.
Compile weekly non-conformance reports.

Job Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
National Diploma in Civil Engineering with a minimum of 5 years’ relevant working experience with a focus on road infrastructure, bulk material handling, pavement layers and drainage.
In case of no formal qualification, a minimum of 10 years’ related working experience with a focus on road infrastructure, bulk material handling, pavement layers and drainage.
Excellent communication skills.
