SUMMARY:
DBN000295 - Audit Clerk - Durban North

Purpose of the Job:

Trainee auditor under a SAICA training contract, gaining professional skills through supervised audit work and practical experience using the CaseWare audit methodology.

Required Qualifications:

3-Year Contract: BCom Accounting or equivalent meeting SAICA requirements (CTA or equivalent).
Extended Contract (4–5 Years): For candidates not meeting 3-year entry requirements.
SAICA Registration: Must be registered or eligible to register as a SAICA trainee.
CaseWare: No experience required; training provided.
Accounting Systems: Xero or Pastel experience advantageous.

POSITION INFO:
Technical Competencies & Experience:

Prepare clear and complete audit work papers.
Perform and document audit testing.
Prepare financial statements, applying the accounting framework and disclosure requirements for different entity types.
Complete CaseWare audit procedures and templates using current-year evidence, while identifying and escalating unusual matters or unresolved issues promptly.
Progress from executing procedures to planning audit strategies, assessing engagement risks, and supervising junior clerks by the third year of training.
Support independent review engagements and attend stock takes to test inventory existence and completeness.
Contribute to accounting, VAT, payroll, tax, and management accounts work.
Manage workflow and documentation systems.
Keep the SAICA logbook updated, participate in training and development sessions, attend required CPD activities, and actively engage in career growth discussions.
