Business Intelligence (BI) Specialist

To create, enhance, and maintain the business intelligence environment, dashboards, and reports for the company (Retail, 1000+ users, numerous branches).

1 Group SSRS platform

• Work with users to compile user requirements and specifications for reports.
• Design, create and test SQL reports using SSRS
• Validate report functionality with end users
• Respond to end users to troubleshoot and/or improve existing reports
• Troubleshoot SSRS platform/jobs/tasks to ensure ongoing delivery of business reports where and when required.

2 Group SSIS platform

• Work with business to compile user requirements and specifications for data sharing.
• Design, create and test SQL data integrations using SSIS
• Validate integration functionality with external partners and business.
• Respond to and work with external partners users to troubleshoot and/or improve existing data sharing integrations.

3 Microsoft PowerBI platform

• Enhancement of the existing data cube environment with new/updated measures
• Creation/Enhancement of PowerBI datasets from SSAS cube data models.
• Manage access to datasets, measures, and information.
• Creation and enhancement of PowerBI dashboards for business use

4 General

• Work with other teams and business areas on ad-hoc data extraction and modelling projects

The job holder is required to perform any duties over and above the key outputs noted above of the job which are at the reasonable request of a superior

Qualifications and Experience:

Minimum Qualifications

• Grade 12 and diploma in information systems
• Relevant tertiary qualification in Informatics
• ITIL

Preferred Experience

• 5 years + hands on support, development, maintenance, and enhancement of SSRS, SSIS and PowerBI environments in a medium to large enterprise (500+ users and 100+ reports/ dashboards etc.)
• Sage X3 ERP data structures and reporting - highly advantageous.

Knowledge:

• SQL, DAX and the Microsoft reporting stack (SSAS, SSRS, SSIS, POWERBI)
• Visual Studio IDE
• Microsoft SQL Server 2012/2014/2016 Database Platform
• Microsoft Reporting Services 2012/2014/2016 Development Environments
• Proficiency in building visualisations in PowerBI essential
• Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills
• Business environment, the relevant role players within the business and their key responsibilities and outcomes.
• Understanding of the company policies and procedures applicable to the specific work environment to ensure that work outcomes are compliant to the policies and procedures
• ITIL/COBIT controls standards.
