CANDIDATE ATTORNEY (CONVEYANCING DEPARTMENT) Role Overview: The Candidate Attorney will be an integral member of the Conveyancing Department, gaining practical experience in all aspects of property transactions while completing articles of clerkship. The successful candidate will assist conveyancing attorneys with property transfers, bond registrations and cancellations, estate transfers, and related property matters, while ensuring compliance with relevant legal and regulatory requirements. Responsibilities will include: Assisting conveyancing attorneys with residential and commercial property transfers. Opening and administrating conveyancing files from inception to registration. Drafting and preparing transfer, bond registration, and bond cancellation documentation. Conducting legal research relating to conveyancing and property law matters. Preparing transfer duty applications and attending to SARS-related requirements. Requesting and reviewing FICA and compliance documentation. Liaising with clients, estate agents, mortgage originators, banks, municipalities, and the Deeds Office. Drafting correspondence and attending to client enquiries. Obtaining rates clearance certificates, levy clearances, and other statutory documents. Conducting Windeed and Deeds Office searches. Assisting with lodgements, registrations, rejections, and follow-up matters at the Deeds Office. Preparing reports for clients, financial institutions, and referral partners. Monitoring progress of matters and ensuring deadlines are met. Maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with all conveyancing procedures. Attending to general legal and administrative duties as required. Key Requirements: Prior exposure to conveyancing processes (even at a junior level will be advantageous) Completed LLB degree. Intention to specialise in conveyancing and property law. Strong academic record and legal drafting skills. Basic understanding of property transfers and Deeds Office procedures. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organisational and time-management abilities. Ability to work under pressure and adhere to strict deadlines. High level of attention to detail and accuracy. Professional and client-focused approach. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Exposure to legal software, GhostPractice, Lexis Convey, or similar systems will be advantageous. Familiarity with Windeed and property-related searches will be advantageous.
