JOB SUMMARY:
SERVICE SECTOR – VERY LARGE LABOUR FORCE

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Join large, national, high profile Group with very large labour force (blue collared workers) who are supported by specialised Executives as well as Senior and Middle Management plus their support staff. Due to the size of the business, it is divided into Inland and Coastal Divisions which are overseen by 2 Operational Directors. The Group’s success is due to a very strict and organised structure with an organogram of accountability at each level and therefore the business is very layered so as optimal performance can be achieved. It should be noted that due to the 24/7 nature of this sector, the CEO’s responsibilities are ongoing, demanding, challenging and rewarding. Customer satisfaction is key to not only retaining existing Clients on a contractual basis which are renewed regularly but the mandate to expand the Group’s footprint nationally is also a critical requirement of the CEO. The complexity of the position lies in the large number of contracts and large labour force and therefore the need to solve business problems, provide appropriate business solutions and think out of the box are key requirements for the CEO to be successful. As with all businesses, the culture of the Group is built on results & success and the need for the candidate to have business and commercial acumen is an absolute prerequisite.

Key performance areas, inter alia, include:

  • By way of summary, the CEO is responsible for providing strategic, financial & operational leadership and will closely direct, co-ordinate and work with the Senior Executive Team and provide leadership as well as direction.
  • Be the architect of strategic conceptualisation underpinned by a strong sales focus to ensure continual growth. This will be sub-divided in making recommendations on short, medium & long term growth initiatives.
  • Together with the CFO, oversee the finance leadership which will include various analyses especially of financial trends & operational procedures to assist the Team. This will naturally include providing guidance, mentorship and advice.
  • Provide strategic input and leadership on decision making issues and act as a strategic advisor in many different areas which will include sales solutions, contracts, negotiations & business deals.
  • It is critical that a sales driven culture to promote continuous growth and develop strategies is maintained & emphasised as it underlines the success of the business as a whole. However, it should never be forgotten that customer satisfaction is simultaneously essential in this role.
  • On a macro level, the CEO needs to evaluate the business’s financial, operational, sales & marketing structures to ensure continual improvements & increasing operational efficiencies.
  • As we are living in the digital age, the candidate will be the champion of digital & technical business strategy and ensure technical leadership strategy is in place.

Requirements:

  • A relevant business tertiary qualification is required plus appropriate experience in a service or related industry where the candidate has managed a very large blue collar workforce at an executive level. The success of the CEO will be fully dependant on the ability to mentor, develop, direct, advise and manage the Executive and Senior Management Teams.
  • Essential traits will include having a strategic & commercial mindset, being customer service focused, having outstanding problem solving skills and continually driving effective results & profitability.
  • An executive presence & a calm demeanour in a high pressured environment is a prerequisite in this role as well as being able to communicate from the most senior level right down to grass roots. In addition, the ability to deal and manage ambiguity will assist the candidate due to complexities that can arise from time to time.
