Capital Projects Cost Accountant

SUMMARY:
Our mining client is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Capital / Project Cost Accountant to join their finance team. This role is responsible for providing financial support to capital projects, ensuring accurate cost control, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and compliance throughout the project lifecycle.

POSITION INFO:
Duties: Monitor project budgets, ensuring that financials are in line with the allocated budget and project scope. Manage project budgets, forecasts, and actual costs, identifying and investigating variances. Ensure accurate allocation of materials, labour and subcontractor costs to projects. Support monthly forecasting and annual budgeting processes. Prepare and maintain accurate project cost reports. Liaise with project managers to track project costs. Perform regular project reconciliations to ensure that all financial data is accurate. Assist with project audits and ensure all project-related financial transactions are recorded in accordance with applicable accounting standards. Support the team with financial reporting and project-related inquiries. Record invoices in the ERP system, ensuring accuracy in cost allocation according to project contracts and agreements. Opening of wbs structures and maintenance thereof. Drafting of AFE's and supporting documents. Execution for review of monthly SOX controls related to Fixed Asset review and verification with the PM system. Assist with automation of repetitive processes within the Fixed Asset space. Requirements: Diploma\/ Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field. Minimum 3-5 years' experience in a Project Cost Accounting or Management Cost Accounting role. Experience within mining, engineering, manufacturing, construction, or heavy industry environments is highly advantageous. Strong understanding of capital projects, budgeting, forecasting, and cost control principles. Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP PS\/CO essential) and advanced Microsoft Excel. Strong analytical, reporting, and problem-solving abilities. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Skills: Strong analytical and commercial mindset.
