Chief Financial Officer

SUMMARY:
Our client based in Johannesburg North within Insurance is currently seeking is Chief Financial Officer to join their team.

POSITION INFO:

They will report to the CEO and assume a strategic role in the overall management of the company. This will include direct responsibility for accounting, finance, forecasting, strategic planning etc. The goal is to protect the company’s revenue and profits to achieve full financial control and sustainable growth.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide leadership, direction and management of the finance and accounting team
• Providing strategic recommendations to the CEO and other members of the executive management team
• Ensure credibility of the finance team by providing timely and accurate management accounts
• Advising on long term business and financial planning
• Proactively manage relationships with third parties (e.g. actuaries and Outsourced Finance)
• Closely monitor cash and ensure that cashflow is appropriate for the company’s operations
• Ensure that effective internal controls are in place and ensure compliance with IFRS, Tax, etc. and ensure legal and regulatory documents are filed and monitor compliance with laws and regulations
• Drive efficiencies in your team and ensure that deadlines (both internal and external) are adhered to
• Oversee the company fiscal activity, including budgeting, reporting, forecasting and auditing
• Identify and address financial risks and opportunities for the company
• Contantly review financial reports in an effort to reduce costs
• Provide executive management with advice on the financial implications of business activities
• Provie recommendations to strategically enhance financial performance and business opportunities
• Perform other ad hoc functions as and when requested

Requirements:

• Qualified Chartered Accountant with a minimum of 5 year’s post articles experience in accounting and financial management (preferably in the insurance sector)     
• CFO experience in the insurance sector will be an advantage
• Excellent knowledge of data analysis and forecasting methods
• Ability to strategise and solve problems
• Strong leadership and organisational skills
• Excellent communication and people skills
• An analytical mind, comfortable with numbers
• Proficient in the use of MS Office
• Ability to understand new issues quickly and make wise decisions
• Ability to inspire confidence and create trust
• Ability to work under pressure, plan personnel workload effectively and delegate
• Quality management
• Promotion of process improvement
• High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation
• The ability to ‘Constructively argue’ issues with management and convince them to promptly implement and/or adhere to changes made as a result of required improvements identified during the audit process
• Maturity – A person who will command respect and who is prepared to assertively exercise his/her powers when the need requires it.
• The ability to ‘stand firm” and resist changes suggested by people who don’t understand the business and whose ideas, if implemented will weaken the ability for the organisation to be managed in a proper manner
