Education Qualification

Bachelor’s Degree of Geology

Years of Experience

Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience, preferably in mining geology and gold

English Level

Native Tongue and English proficient in written and verbal communication

Technical Qualification

Modelling, implementing and fostering a strong safety culture

Eligible for registration as a professional geologist

Strong interpersonal, influencing and analytical skills

Strong problem solving and decision making skills

Ability to lead from the front and a willingness to continuously improve the business

Experience in mine economics and the budgeting process

Proficiency in Microsoft software such as Word, Excel and Power Point

Understanding of mining software such as Surpac and Datamine

The Chief Mine Geologist is responsible for management of the geology department, for all aspects of mine geology (including implementation of an effective grade / dilution control program, and estimation of mineral resources and reconciliation process). 

This mine site-based position is an excellent opportunity for someone to join the organization and make a significant impact while working with the senior leadership team to lead and guide the organization.

• Fostering a strong and visible safety culture including compliance with Health and Safety regulations
• Provide mentorship/leadership of geology department, and coordinate and report on all its activities
• Building the Geology team through active recruitment, development and retention strategy
• Develop and execute the overall strategy for gold production
• Development and active monitoring of a rigorous grade control program with the aim of continually improving the geological modelling, grace control processes and resource and estimation modelling
• Contribute to the development of policies and procedures with respect to safety, geological data capture, geological ore control and modelling
• Knowledge of structural geology and gold mineralization
• A proactive approach at extending the LOM and an active involvement in near mine exploration
• Prepare and manage operating, contractual (e.g. drilling, assaying), and capital budgets
• Responsible for the reconciliation between mine production, mineral resource and mineral reserves
• Ensure that all activities of the Geology Department are consistent with all Environmental, Health, and Safety practices
• Having a ‘team’ approach in working with all departments and senior management and corporate
• Communicate effectively with direct supervisor, Senior Mine Geologist, and Mine Engineering and Production departments
