An opportunity has arisen for a Chief Operations Officer with our client in the Business sector, to be based in Gqeberha.

The COO provides leadership to the successful execution of the strategic vision of the company and it's targeted priorities.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Duties:

PROVIDE STRATEGIC SUPPORT TO CEO AND DEPUTISE WHEN REQUIRED
  • Develop and implement overall operational strategies to achieve the strategic plan and operational effectiveness.
  • Represent on boards, committees and at functions as
    designated.
  • Regularly review and refine the value proposition in liaison with CEO.
  • Host and receive top level visitors/ trade delegations.
  • Implement Board decisions as instructed.
  • Public presentations (stakeholders, delegations, public forums etc.).
  • Deputize the CEO when required to do so.
  • Unblock road blocks / obstacles to support advocacy and lobbying initiatives.
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT AND STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENTS
  • Develop business through strategic stakeholder
    engagements.
  • Ensuring build and maintaining of effective, mutually beneficial relationships with key stakeholders at
    Board, operational and member interface level, and government / other stakeholders in order to achieve its
    objectives and leverage support.
  • Support advocacy and lobbying initiatives.
  • Identify business fundraising opportunities.
  • Develop supportive cluster strategies in line with the geographical and sectoral needs.
  • Ensure smooth running of the Task Teams and delivery of strategic priorities.
MEMBERSHIP GROWTH AND PARTICIPATION
  • Membership: Develop an effective membership growth, participation and retention strategy in line with the
    cluster approach. Ensure its effective implementation by the membership team. Build strong membership and
    retention teams that are action oriented with set targets and budgets. Periodically monitor performance against budget.
  • Events: Ensure alignment with strategy. Manage events
    according to set targets and budgets. Monitor budget vs actual. Ensure correct marketing and promoting. Secure sponsorship. Manage flagship and other key events.
  • Provide effective managerial oversight to the Membership Manager.
DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT STRATEGIC PROJECTS IN LINE WITH
OBJECTIVES
  • Develop and diversify revenue streams through a pipeline of strategic projects both funded and unsolicited.
  • Develop the necessary project plans and funding proposals in liaison with CEO.
  • Build and support project teams to ensure effective
    implementation of the projects and ROI for sunders and
    stakeholders.
  • Growth capacity and funding of the externally funded projects.
  • Provide effective managerial oversight to the Projects Coordinator.
DEVELOPMENT OF MEMBERSHIP VALUE ADDS
  • In line with the Trade & Investment sub-committee objectives, drive alignment of all stakeholders.
  • Ensure sub-committee objectives are supported by effective operational deliverables under the Desk;
    Provide support and build networks for the Desk;
    Feedback & liaison with sponsors.
  • To increase query resolution rates & positive ROI for sponsorships.
  • Ensure smooth running of initiative and achievement of deliverable to members and sponsors.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field; MBA will be advantageous
  • 5-10 years of executive level operational experience required
  • Exceptional executive presence, business acumen and presentation skills
  • Budgeting and/or financial focused mindset helpful
  • Project management capabilities
  • Stakeholder engagement skills
  • Entrepreneurial mindset
