SUMMARY:
A mining company in the Southern Kalahari is seeking the expertise of a Chief Safety and Risk Officer

POSITION INFO:

Our client is one of the major Iron Ore producers in South Africa with a well-established overseas market. The Mine is situated in the Southern Kalahari.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

 

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 (Essential)
  • National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Safety Management (Essential)
  • Certificate: Lead Auditor (Health & Safety Standards as subscribed to by the Mine) (Essential)
  • Competent A Certificate in Surface Mining (Recommended)
  • Blasting Certificate / Equivalent MQA qualification (Recommended)

 

Experience

  • Minimum of five (5) years operational Safety and Risk management experience in a mining environment (Essential)
  • Minimum of one (1) year Supervisory experience at middle management level (Essential)
  • Minimum of one (1) year operational ISO Standards experience (Essential)
  • Minimum of one (1) year operational Integrated systems experience (Essential)

 (Total of eight (8) years’ experience)

Other Requirements

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • To prevent and minimise accidents, dangerous occurrences and non-conformances in terms of health and safety legislation and standards by promoting of a safety orientated culture as well as rendering a consulting service to other departments;
  • To ensure all SHERQ process mapping, risk profiles and control measures are implemented in the organisation, which includes but not limited to:
    • Risk management and assessment
    • Statutory compliance
    • Health and safety management
    • People management and development
    • Process mapping
    • Audits
    • Legal appointments and Legal register
    • Analysis and reporting
    • SHERQ adherence and compliance
    • Work Ethics

 

Appointment:  Remuneration will be based on a competitive all-inclusive flexible package.

 

Housing:        The company encourages private home ownership, but the allocation thereof is subject to the

                        rules of our Housing policy

 

The successful incumbent will be appointed subject to being certified medically fit as per the Mine Health and Safety Act 29/1996 and meeting the requirements of the Company’s Code of Practice – Minimum standards of fitness to perform work at a Mine. He/she may also undergo a psychometric assessment.

 

The abovementioned position is D2 on the Paterson band grading system. The successful candidate that conforms to all said requirements and experience will be appointed on this grading. Should the successful candidate not conform with all said requirements and experience, but are nonetheless regarded as suitable for appointment to the position, he/she will be appointed on a lower more appropriate grading, until successful achievement of required competencies and skills.
