Job summary statement/purpose:


To effectively manage claims within the governed framework to ensure compliance with the short term insurance regulations and to drive the successful delivery of the claims environment by ensuring the attainment of the organisation''''''''s objectives internally and externally.


KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS (DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES):


1. Strategic Management:

• Participate in the setting up of departmental strategy.
• Ensure that effective and efficient claims processes and practices in place enabling business to achieve its strategy.
• Drive the department to achieve the strategic objectives.
• Analyse the sufficiency of organisation''''''''s cover and advise accordingly.
• Plan, design and execution of above.


2. Operational Management

• Assuming overall accountability for ensuring adequate claims plans and procedures, including but not limited to disaster management, risk management and system manual are in place.
• Monitoring the claims value change (inflows and outflow) within the quality and timelines expected.
• Ensure that the department is optimally capacitated to ensure the attainment of core functions.
• Conduct market research to ensure company meets market standards.
• Ensuring supplier management policies and process are in place.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory framework and alignment with claims manual.
• Produce, analyse and provide accurate reports to EM Insurance Operations, Executive Committee.

3. People Management:


• Identify resourcing needs and participate in the recruitment of staff. Ensure that all staff are trained, skilled and that their expertise is fully applied.
• Development areas identified and career development plans in place for team members.
• Develop adequate talent and succession management plans.
• Ensure that annual performance objectives are contracted and adhered to by staff.
• Manage team performance, ensuring that non-performance is dealt with accordingly.

• Ensure that working environment contributes improving staff morale and increased productivity.
• Create a culture of learning and development within the team.

4. Financial:

• Manage the departmental budget, ensuring expenditure within set parameters.
• Manage the claims costs.
• Forecasting and projections on the loss ratio estimates (frequency and severity).


Qualifications and Experience:

• Relevant professional qualification or B Degree
• RE5, preferably RE1
• Insurance related qualification
• Up to 5-7 relevant years’ experience in a similar environment, dealing with Insurance claims and management of staff.

Knowledge
• Sound knowledge of Claims Procedures.
• Understanding of the business context within which company operates.
• Sound knowledge of the insurance legislative environment.
• Understanding of labour legislations.
