About SAIIA The South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA) is an independent, non-profit public policy think tank committed to rigorous research and policy engagement aimed at fostering a well-governed, peaceful, economically sustainable, and globally connected Africa. For over ninety years, SAIIA has been instrumental in shaping discourse on Africa's international relations, governance, and economic development. SAIIA is inviting applications for the position of Climate Finance Researcher within its Climate and Natural Resources Programme. The successful candidate will support projects focused on climate finance, climate diplomacy, climate adaptation, and energy policy, including the just transition. Additionally, they will assist the Programme Head in fundraising efforts to secure further project funding. About the Role The role will primarily involve work on just transition and country platforms, as well as adaptation finance within the current project portfolio. Research activities will include both desktop analysis and fieldwork. The ideal candidate will possess excellent research and writing skills and demonstrate the ability to work flexibly and effectively in a dynamic environment. Key Responsibilities Contribute to the delivery of existing projects through research, writing, coordination, and presentations. Support fundraising by identifying opportunities, preparing proposals, and engaging with funders. Conduct research activities, both desktop and field-based, under the guidance of the Programme Head. Coordinate events, deliver presentations on research findings, and facilitate workshops. Enhance the dissemination of research outputs via social media, direct stakeholder engagement, and media relations. Monitor developments in climate finance, including mitigation, adaptation, and loss & damage, supported by stakeholder mapping and engagement. Required Qualifications & Skills A Master's degree in a relevant discipline such as climate finance, political science, political economy, economics, climate policy, energy policy, or a related field. At least three to five years of relevant professional experience. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience in fundraising is desirable. Established national and regional networks in Africa within relevant research and policy areas would be advantageous. Proven ability to build positive relationships with project teams and stakeholders across the organisation.
