A specialised healthcare advisory initiative dedicated to reducing medicoâlegal risk in the public health sector is recruiting for a Clinical Risk & Quality Improvement Lead, to act as the senior clinical authority within a medico-legal advisory programme. The role bridges clinical practice, medicoâlegal review, hospital operations and risk analytics to drive quality improvement at systems level. This is a strategic, nonâclinical position focused on governance strengthening, clinician engagement, and transforming claims data into actionable patient safety interventions.

POSITION INFO:
Key Responsibilities

Serve as the primary clinical interface between hospital management, clinicians, medical experts and technical advisory teams.
Build trust at executive and provincial levels and communicate programme insights clearly and effectively.
Oversee clinical audits, case reviews, expert opinions and root cause analyses.
Ensure consistent, highâquality clinical audit outputs and identify crossâfacility patterns.
Lead hospital walkthroughs, assess governance structures, documentation practices and highârisk clinical areas (maternity, emergency, theatre, ICU).
Support facilities in identifying priority gaps and implementing practical, resourceâappropriate improvements.
Convert medicoâlegal case intelligence into targeted quality improvement recommendations.
Collaborate with analytics teams on coding frameworks, trend analysis and risk profiling.
Produce recommendations for protocols, training, resourcing and patient safety interventions.
Provide clinical input into reports, insight papers and provincial governance discussions.
Support policy strengthening and knowledge-sharing across facilities.

Minimum Requirements

MBChB or equivalent.
Current HPCSA registration (in good standing).
Significant postâqualification clinical experience in South African public hospitals.
Exposure to clinical governance, M&M reviews, audits and quality improvement processes.
Experience in high-risk medicoâlegal areas: Obstetrics & Maternity, Emergency Medicine, Anaesthetics, Paediatrics, Family Medicine (with hospital exposure)
Additional South African language (will be advantageous)
Extensive travel across South Africa, including rural and periâurban hospitals.
