Commissioning Lead Engineer required in South Africa BESS

POSITION INFO:

Role Summary/Purpose To lead and manage integration of the hybrids system

Essential Responsibilities             

Lead a multidisciplinary technical project team to deliver the technology aspect of the renewable energy hybrid project. 

Collaborate with the Discipline Leads and Engineering Leader to ensure all technical activities are scheduled, clearly defined, and assigned to project team members. 

Lead technical reviews and requirements definition to ensure compliance to customer specifications

Develop purchase specifications and bills of material to implement a system

Define interface points across all functions ie Energy Storage, Solar and Wind (electrical, mechanical, controls) and externally (vendors, customers, contractors).

As the technical leader for the assigned engineering project, responsibilities also include activities such as schedule updates, supporting sourcing initiatives, value engineering, planning & tracking project design reviews, quality control/quality assurance, and contractor management. 

As needed, provide oversight and reviews of deliverables in the proposal/bid phase.  Responsibilities include estimating or review of design man-hours and materials, conceptual design reviews/system sizing, directing designers and draftsmen on drawings, proposal documentation including BOM, writing and/or reviewing technical specifications, supporting sourcing for vendor quotations, developing clarifications and exceptions as well as technical responses. 

Direct the efforts of engineers and designers, coordinating with sourcing and project controls and the project team on technical matters to meet project specifications, cost control, and schedule objectives. Includes writing equipment specifications and contractor work scopes, requesting vendor quotations, evaluating quotations, interfacing with customers and project team members, and final commissioning.  Will be accountable for team results in order to deliver a high quality product to customer CTQ’s on time and on or under budget.

Define processes, procedures, perform RCA’s (Root Cause Analysis), perform corrective actions, and validate process control.  Support quality initiatives.

Execute administrative responsibilities including service reports, job safety analysis, training course completions, quality compliance, GE policy compliance, expense reporting, and logging/issue tracking

Qualifications/Requirements                    

Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering (BSEE strongly preferred)

Minimum of 10 years of experience in a technical engineering role within the Power, PV, Wind or Energy Storage industry

Good presence in front of the customer with demonstrated commercial experience such as Project Management

Effective communication and interpersonal skills.  Ability to work in a team environment.  Must be creative, able to lead a team, and be accountable for team results in order to deliver a high quality product on time and under budget. 

Legal authorization to work in South Africa

Must be willing to stay in the nearest town from the Project Site

Able to speak, read, write, and communicate in English.

Desired Characteristics                

Experience involving the handling, installation, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of renewable energy systems.

Fundamental knowledge of common practices regarding EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) project execution and power plant system design

Experience in Grid Connected Energy Storage Systems, Renewable Energy, or Power Plant applications

Knowledge of and experience using IEEE or IEC standards and codes.  Moreover, ability to engineer design packages when no clear customer specification is provided.

Field-testing and commissioning experience with safe work habits.  Demonstrated electrical and mechanical troubleshooting capability.  Previous experience installing and operating power equipment a plus.

Ability to develop and implement standards and structured programs
