POSITION INFO:
We are looking for an experienced Compliance Manager with a strong background in General Insurance \/ Short-Term Insurance to join a leading insurance organisation. This is not a role for someone who simply identifies compliance gaps and writes reports. We are looking for someone who wants to fix things - someone who can identify a problem, challenge the business, work with stakeholders to find a practical solution and see it through to implementation. You will operate within the second-line Compliance function, providing independent oversight, regulatory guidance, monitoring and challenge across the business. The role includes exposure to senior stakeholders, governance forums and regulatory engagement. Provide second-line oversight, challenge and advisory support. Monitor and interpret legislative, prudential and market-conduct developments. Conduct risk-based compliance assessments and thematic reviews. Identify compliance gaps, control weaknesses and emerging risks. Drive and challenge remediation plans through to closure. Support regulatory submissions, inspections and engagements with the PA, FSCA and other relevant regulators. Build trusted relationships with senior management while maintaining independence. Lead, coach and develop the compliance team. Prepare governance, Exco, Board and regulatory reporting. Job Experience & Skills Required: Qualifications: Matric (Grade 12) Bachelor's Degree in Law, Risk Management, Accounting, Finance or a related field. A professional Compliance or Risk Management qualification\/certification would be advantageous. Membership of a recognised professional compliance or risk management body would be advantageous. Experience: 6-10 years' compliance experience, preferably within General Insurance \/ Short-Term \/ Non-Life Insurance. Strong end-to-end compliance experience - from regulatory interpretation and risk assessment through to monitoring, identifying gaps, remediation and closure. Solid exposure to FSCA requirements and Prudential Standards. Strong understanding of the Insurance Act and the South African insurance regulatory environment. Experience with compliance monitoring, regulatory change, regulatory submissions, inspections and regulatory engagement. Cell captive experience would be advantageous. Proven experience managing and developing a compliance team.
