SUMMARY:

Main Purpose of Job

The Core Network Engineering Manager is the overall custodian and authority of the company's Core,
Access and 3rd Party networks; and any supporting EMS/NMS and Services Platforms.
The primary responsibilities are the Evaluation, Design, Implementation, Capacity, Performance,
Change and Release Management across the company network.
The Core Network Engineering Manager drives best practice, continuous improvement and
innovation at process and procedure level. Implement changes on core networking devices to
ensure service delivery to business & all its customers.
Provide direct leadership and overall management oversight for the Services Feasibility, Network
Maintenance, Network and Services Provisioning and Technical Relationship Management
functions and practices within the company.

POSITION INFO:

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS


Core Network Engineer:

  • Develop and manage the ultimate plan, tactics and
  • strategic direction of the network and
  • infrastructure/service platforms to ensure it meets the
  • business objectives and overall vision
  • - Evaluate and implement industry ‘best-practice’ when it
  • comes to capacity planning and
  • performance management.
  • - Identifying where efficiencies can be made and making
  • improvements (SIP’s)
  • - Support of the Core Network Operations, incorporating
  • fault diagnostics and resolution across network and
  • other multi-customer platforms
  • - Development process and procedures for Change and
  • Release Management (change/upgrade the system
  • capacity)
  • - Responsible for managerial oversight of the periodic/on
  • demand maintenance of the network
  • - Responsible for planning, engineering, configurations &
  • maintenance of the TWK Core Network
  • Coordinates all configuration & management changes
  • to the network with partners, customers & executive
  • management as required
  • - Ensure hardened security & protection are in place of
  • network & IP as required by company policy
  • - Drive robust and industry leading compliance and
  • governance across our Network and infrastructure
  • - Advise senior management team an any commercial
  • innovation through the Design and deployment of
  • technology to improve the customer experience and
  • product and service value
  • - Establishes & maintains permanent network architect
  • records and database of network build and
  • configuration (Configuration Management)
  • - Create Low level/high level network designs
  • Provide the technical and managerial oversight for the
  • Services Feasibility capability within TWK
  • - Provide the technical and managerial oversight for the
  • Technical Relationship Management capability within
  • TWK

Platform & System Administration:
  • Managerial and Administrative owner of all core platforms
  • supporting the key elements of the Core network
  • - Manage/mitigate administrative and operational risks on
  • all platforms
  • - Ensures the security and protection of data as required by
  • company policy
  • - Escalate and manage vendors/3rd party contractors and
  • manage these escalations to resolution to ensure finality
  • on matters.

3rd Party Carriers & Vendor Management:
  • Manage & maintain relationships with vendors & external
  • partners
  • - Escalate to vendors/3rd party contractors and manage
  • these escalations to resolution to ensure finality on
  • matters.

Team Management, Orientation & Leadership:
  • Mange staff/team on all staff/team related matters
  • ensuring compliance of TWK’s workflow practice.
  • - Identify competency gaps in staff/team and set plans to
  • reduce these by planning for necessary training and
  • ensuring fully competent staff/teams.
  • - Mentoring (including training thereof) of all direct reports in
  • line with their performance management objectives
  • - Regular meetings held with staff/team to discuss project
  • progress of individual areas of accountability.
  • - Ensures that the spend within the business unit complies
  • with business plan and organisational processes

REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications:

  • 3 or 4 year degree
  • - Specialist certifications from Vendor or OEM (Juniper, Mikrotik, Ubiquiti,
  • HPE, Ruckus, Microsoft)
  • - Advanced Knowledge of TCP/IP (v4/6) and other Transport Protocols
  • - Advanced Knowledge of Security Platforms and Technologies
  • - Advanced Knowledge of RF, Fixed Wireless, Fibre, NLD/WDM, Routing
  • and Switching Technologies
  • - Advanced Knowledge of VoIP, UCS and Hosted IP/PBX Technologies
  • - Advanced Knowledge of Systems Administration
  • - Advanced Knowledge of ITILv3/4 and/or ITSM
  • Knowledge of Project Management practices

Experience:
  • A minimum of 7 years in the ICT sector of which 5 years
  • must have been spent in the networked IT services
  • environment
  • - Strong experience in technical management of highlyskilled
  • teams
  • - Relationship management experience and dealing with
  • customers at all levels is a requirement
  • - Experience in dealing with cross-functional work groups
